A true facultative carnivore? Effects of replacing ground chicken carcasses with soybean meal on the growth of captive broad ‐snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) and its economics implications
AbstractA specific diet for broad-snouted caiman,Caiman latirostris has not been designed despite the value of farm-raised caiman as an aquaculture product. To fill this gap, the objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance dietary replacement of ground chicken carcasses by of soybean meal (SM) as diet complement forC. latirostris. We conducted a 3-month growth trial to determine effects of graded levels of dietary SM on caiman growth as measured by increase in body length, body weight gain, food consumption (FC) and food conversion rate (FCR). Forty-eight hatchling caimans were fed with diets, composed primar...

Does wealth equate to happiness? an 11-year panel data analysis exploring socio-economic indicators and social media metrics
This study makes a synthetic contribution to the debate on the Eas terlin paradox, indicating that economic growth can enhance well-being if income inequality is kept below a certain level. Although these results are theoretically enlightening for the relationship between economics and national well-being globally, this study’s sample comes from mainland China. D ue to differences in cultural, economic, and political factors, further research is suggested to explore these dynamics globally. (Source: PLoS One)

Economic Evaluation of COVID-19 Immunization Strategies: A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis
ConclusionsThe current review confirmed that COVID-19 vaccination is a cost-effective alternative in preventing and controlling COVID-19. In addition, it highlights the profound impact of variables such as dose size, target population, vaccine efficacy, speed of vaccination, and diversity of vaccine brands and mechanisms on cost effectiveness, and also proposes practical and effective strategies for improving COVID-19 vaccination campaigns from the perspective of economic evaluation. Economic evaluation of intensive home treatment in comparison to care as usual alongside a randomised controlled trial
ConclusionsIHT appears slightly more attractive in terms of cost-utility and cost-effectiveness than CAU, although differences in both costs and effects are small especially when viewed from the societal costs perspective. From the health care sector costs perspective, IHT has a higher probability of being cost-effective compared to CAU.Trials registrationNetherlands Trial Register: NTR6151. The effect of actual and expected income shocks on mental wellbeing: Evidence from three East Asian countries during COVID-19
Econ Hum Biol. 2024 Mar 29;53:101378. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2024.101378. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper evaluates the effects of economic shocks to current and expected income reduction on mental wellbeing. We use individual-level data from three East Asian countries; China, Japan, and South Korea, during the early phases of the pandemic when the COVID-induced economic shocks were severe. The findings reveal significant causal effects from current and expected income reduction on different aspects of mental health deterioration, including anxiety, trouble sleeping, boredom, and loneliness. Interestingly, we found th...
