A Blueprint for Multi-use Disease Modeling in Health Economics: Results from Two Expert-Panel Consultations
ConclusionsMUDMs would improve on current decision support regarding cost-effectiveness information. Given feasibility challenges, this would be most relevant for diseases with multiple treatments, large burden of disease and requiring more complex models. The current overview offers policy makers a starting point to organize the development, use, and maintenance of MUDMs and to support choices concerning  which diseases and policy decisions they will be helpful for. Exploring kidney dialysis costs in the United States: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that prevention of or delay in progression to ESRD could have considerable cost savings for Medicare and private payers, particularly in patients with high-risk conditions such as type 2 diabetes. More efficient use of resources is needed, including low-cost medication, to improve clinical outcomes and lower overall costs, especially in high-risk groups. Widening access to PD where it is safe and appropriate may help to reduce dialysis costs.PMID:38605648 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2024.2342210 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Examining confidential wholesale margin estimates in European countries for the price negotiation of patented drugs in Germany: a statistical model
ConclusionIf there is reason to believe that margins are regressive, confidential wholesale margins are expected to be better estimated by the power function based on margins of regulated countries than by the published country-specific average margins, reducing significantly inaccurate effects on margin estimations of high-price drugs. Socioeconomic determinants of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance
AbstractThe aim of the paper is to evaluate the relative importance of the set of socioeconomic characteristics of population on collective decision on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance. We apply cross-section OLS methods to the municipal-level non-survey data for 145 municipalities in Serbia, on the COVID-19 vaccination rate and socioeconomic characteristics of the population, to evaluate the determinants of cross-municipal variation in vaccine uptake decision. Using the estimated coefficients from the OLS regressions, we apply the standardized beta method to evaluate the relative importance of each factor. Vaccine acceptance i...

Costs associated with adverse events during treatment episodes for adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Conclusions: This study found that AEs occurring during ADHD treatment episodes are associated with significant healthcare costs. This highlights the potential of treatments with favorable safety profiles to alleviate the burden experienced by patients and the healthcare system.PMID:38602691 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2024.2342749 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)
