How closely does medical research have to align with chosen specialty like dermatology? Basic Science vs Clinical Research
Was recommended to post this here to run by actual dermatologists! Current med student here looking at potential research mentors. I'm exploring the dermatology field and am in talks with a few potential mentors. There is one clinical research project with a mentor/fellow about melanoma. However, their research kind of delves far more into the organ metastasis of melanoma and really less about the skin side of melanoma. On the other hand, I have an offer from a dermatology professor with a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How closely does medical research have to align with chosen specialty like dermatology?
Med student here looking at potential research mentors. I'm exploring the dermatology field and am in talks with one mentor about melanoma. However, their research kind of delves far more into the brain metastasis of melanoma and really less about the skin side of melanoma. Of course, I will have to think about whether I'm truly interested in their research because I feel like nothing is worse than doing research that I'm not truly interested in, unless it's not finding a research mentor at... Advantages of matching top academic programs
Are there substantial advantages to matching into well-known academic derm programs if you're not interested in an academic/research oriented career? Is it similar to attending a well-known medical school - in that you'll have more resources, connections, etc for fellowship applications or career networking? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Michigan State CHM vs Wayne State
Hello I have been accepeted to both MSU’s MD program and Wayne State’s MD program. I need help deciding where to go. Wayne - close to home. Good match list (I would like dermatology or ophthalmology). traditional cirriculum Where clincial experience begins M3. MSU - would have to move, not as good of a match list. However, MSU students I know seem to have low stress and enjoy it a lot there which I really like. Early clinical experience. MSU is straight pass/fail, but I have also heard... To what extent can Benzoyl Peroxide kill Demodex mites?
Any peer-reviewed evidence for the quotation below, written by Dr. Cynthia Bailey BA Mills College (1976-80), MD Tulane (1980-85)? If so, what concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide suffices? 2.5%? 5%? Several years ago, I attended an American Academy of Dermatology lecture given by a physician practicing in Israel where they use benzoyl peroxide for Demodex. Permethrin is not available there and this physician said she gets good control of facial Demodex infestation and rosacea... Click to expand... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

aesthetics medicine - residency - anesthesiology ?
Which types of residencies allow for physicians to make the transition to aesthetics medicine, such as Med Spas and such? I know plastic surgery definitely has the potential for such a transition, but I am not the most excited about a surgery residency. Dermatology is another potential residency option. I've heard people say anesthesiology as a residency allows for a switch to aesthetics medicine - thoughts? Any other residencies? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why do Anesthesiologists get paid so much?
This is not about me being against the higher pay, but simply not knowing why. Most of this is speculation, but it seems a lot of the lesser traditional positions make the more money. Kind of like Radiology, or Dermatology. By less traditional, I mean not your typical stressful examine, diagnose, prescribe/treat doctor. I know Derm is, but stereotype is, it has better hours, no emergencies, less tress. I hope you get what I'm saying lol. Pretty much, what does Anesthesiology do that brings... Should you still consider derm if you didn ’t enjoy your home derm rotation?
Does it get better when you are more confident in your clinical skills and can set up your practice however you like? I found clinic unbelievably draining despite the relatively short hours I worked and didn’t feel like a really “clicked” with the personalities I was working with, but I wonder if the immense lifestyle benefits of dermatology would outweigh that down the line.
