When to take Step 2 CK?
First of all, apologies if this isn't the right forum for this - I haven't been on SDN in ages and am a little "technologically challenged." I am a medical student who scored above 260 on Step 1 and am a little scared of doing worse on Step 2 CK. I'll definitely have taken CK before ranking, but I'm wondering if it's important to get CK out of the way before interviews. I've heard that PDs are valuing CK scores more and more, but anecdotally I know a few people from the last two application... When to take Step 2 CK? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Matching with less than stellar stats
Has anyone matched into derm as an “uncompetitive applicant” or with less than stellar stats? If so, how did you navigate this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does MD/MPH programs give an advantage in matching competitive specialties?
More or less thread title. Incoming M1; I’ve been accepted to a program that has a 1+3 curriculum and has an MD/MPH option incorporated into the 4 years. Public health and preventative medicine has been a big part of my application from undergrad and I loved the epidemiology related service projects I did during undergrad. I am interested in dermatology and there is a variety of skin cancer service projects and non-profits I’ve worked within the past years and I can continue to do so as... dermatology in the age of covid19
how is everyone handling clinic? as a mohs surgeon, there are some cases i don’t feel comfortable leaving for a few weeks to months from now on the other hand, i’m also deeply uncomfortable with grouping a bunch of 60+ year old patients in the waiting room for hours have people started canceling or closing clinic to see how everything shakes out? Question about friends patient encounter
Pathologist here....So long story short. My friend went to see a derm for what she thought was a pimple near her eye. The derm did what I think was a punch biopsy on it because he thought she had lupus. My friend had no other symptoms, no other skin lesions. No labs were ordered before biopsy. Now she has a small wound from the biopsy. The ANA was ordered after the biopsy which was negative. when I heard this I was furious. Was the biopsy clinically indicated? I was thinking several... UCLA (Geffen Scholarship) vs. Stanford
Never posted before but longtime lurker and would love some insight. Sorry for the long intro, but I’m trying to give as much context as possible for my decision. In the future, I have three specialty choices in mind: ophthalmology, dermatology and ortho. As all three of these are competitive, I’m looking to put myself in the best position to succeed. I’m also potentially interested in academic medicine and don’t want to close any doors on that front either. I’ve lived in California my... Can path-trained dermatopathologists function as dermatologists as well?
Let's say a pathologist went on to do a dermatopathology fellowship, could said dermatopathologist function as a dermatologist as well? For example, could they do their own biopsies, skin cancer screenings, get patient interaction, etc.? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts from a PGY-5
For medical students, from an anonymous PGY-5 midway through my final year, here are some thoughts about Radiation Oncology: If you're someone who likes medicine, surgery, oncology, advanced technology, and a lot of time with patients, I can't think of a better field than Radiation Oncology. Even though things like resident and attending lifestyle and compensation are similar to fields like Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, etc., the day-to-day work in each of these fields couldn't be... Reversal of androgenic alopecia in Lung Cancer.
Has anyone heard of this? I have a patient who just presented with weight loss and headache- found to have CA lung (most likely, biopsy pending) and a cerebellar lesion. He has always been completely bald but over the past few months, his hair have grown back and now has a full head of hair!! Im guessing its some kind of paraneoplastic phenomenon, but I couldn't find any info? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lost internship at MD Lab-- now what?
Hey guys, To make a long story short I am a pre-med student. I was apart of this amazing DREAM MD lab as a intern doing microbe techniques and molecular bio stuff. I made a big mistake ( I suppose) and the PI was gracious to give me another chance to redeem myself. Unfortunately it wasn't enough and I was let go from the lab and not to return this semester. I was kinda bummed- but not surprised because I was also dealing with schoolwork, a job, the lab position, and mental health stuff. I... Lost internship at MD Lab-- now what? Most Attractive Volunteer Specialty?
Hello, Everyone! I have a few clinics close to my college, and I am hoping to start volunteering at one this semester; I am curious if medical schools prefer experience in one type of practice over another. For example, volunteering at an emergency clinic versus a dermatology or internal medicine private practice. Does such a preference exist? Thank you so much for your time! In the past, I have worked for a Canadian Fertility Doctor, in an Autism Home, a Plastic Surgery Office, and for a... Most Attractive Volunteer Specialty? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tape / adhesive allergy
I have a patient interested in an SCS trial but has a severe allergy to tape/adhesives including paper tape. When she had back surgery about three years ago, the adhesive from the dressing caused her significant dermatitis that still persists along her low back. Any thoughts on how to protect the leads during the trial and potential dressing ideas for the potential implant? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

12% Minimum order for generics via ABC Vendor
My friend owns an independant dermatology pharmacy in Philadelphia, PA. The average cost of each med on his shelves is over $300. He was just complaining to me that recently an Amerisource Bergen representative complained to him that his Brand name ordering was way too high and that he needed to have at least 12% generic ordering (audited every 3 months) or they would suspend his account with Americsource Bergen and he will no longer be able to order from them. Does anyone know why this 12%... 12% Minimum order for generics via ABC Vendor (Source: Student Doctor Network)
