Is the demand for dermatologists keeping up with the insane residency growth rate?
I was looking through some match data and noticed that Dermatology is right up with EM as the most rapidly growing residency. The number of positions offered has increased from 297 to 538 in the past 12 years, an 81% percent increase. For reference, EM, which I see everyone on these forums complain about oversaturation, has increased 90%. Is there a threat of oversaturation in dermatology? Especially considering the pending bill to add 15000 more Medicare funded residency positions, some of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UCSF Dermatology Clinical Research Fellowship
The UCSF Psoriasis and Skin Treatment Center currently has an opening for a full-time, clinical research fellow to begin ASAP although start date can be negotiated. The fellowship is designed for physicians who have completed at least three years of post-graduate residency training and who are thus eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in California. We unfortunately do not have the capacity to support international medical graduates who have not completed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

syndrome name
Can one of you remind of syndrome name when a patient has an enlarged L5 tranverse process and they catch the L5 nerve with certain movements? Just saw a young wrestler with a normal MRI, but on x-ray he has larger than normal L5 transverse processes and slight L5 weakness and classic L5 dermatome radicular pain. Only gets the leg pain with competitive wrestling, not normal exercise or other movements. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When to schedule my IM sub-i?
Hi everyone, I’m a MS3 applying derm and we are submitting preferences for my sub-I month. My home derm program has many derm rotations and even if there are no aways it’s a tight fit to get them all in before ERAS. I’m also not the strongest test taker and would like a full month off to study for CK (and to make up for my step 1 score). At this point, I think it would be better for me to schedule my sub-I for after ERAS is due. I already have a very strong IM rec letter from my core. Are... When to schedule my IM sub-i? Full Practice Authority
Recently, Cali approved the full practice authority bill. Is this an issue in dermatology? If so, what is the AAD doing to combat this and how will this effect future derm hopefuls? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ophthalmology Boards Fail Rate
I compiled the pass/fail rate among some specialties where the data is made publicly available. I was unable to find dermatology and ENT. Also, note that the internal medicine and neurology data is for first-time test takers only. Matching into Mohs fellowship with 9 months to go as PGY3
Hi all, Thanks for the advice from everyone on this forum over the years. I'm a PGY3 resident at a mid-tier dermatology program. I recently became interested in Mohs. Unfortunately, I don't have any research and haven't done much other than study during residency. Does anyone have any recommendations on matching into a Mohs fellowship with just 9 months to go until the next cycle? I'm willing to do a lot - use vacation as aways, apply to every program, do research, etc. I'm a single guy... Does enjoying excisions mean I will like Mohs?
Hi all - first-year derm resident here. I've been doing excisions and I really enjoy them - although I'm still learning and becoming faster and better is an ongoing process. I wanted to hear if you think this translates to being interested in Mohs surgery. Certainly willing to do an extra year of training, and the prospect of being a Mohs surgeon excites me. Just curious because I have a lot of research but zero Mohs/derm surgery projects. I do get a little frightened about doing... Does enjoying excisions mean I will like Mohs? Interested in derm
Hi guys, I just started my first year at a top DO school. As a decade long acne patient, I have always wanted to be a dermatologist. I know this is really really hard as a DO, and even an MD. But is there anything you guys think I can start doing now to at least have a chance? I know connections help a lot, as well as research. Looking for any tips you guys can give, especially since step 1 will be P/F for me. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thread About Private Equity
I wanted to post a thread where we could discuss actual experiences with private equity. Currently, 11% of all dermatology practices are PE-owned. There is a general distaste among dermatologists for the spurt of PE acquisitions. Can anyone describe personal (or someone they know) experiences with private equity hiring? What were the pay and hours like? What was the ratio of PA/NP to MD? What was the workflow like? Both positive and negative experiences are appreciated. For those... Dermatology vs Orthodontics
Dermatology is said to be one of the most competitive specialties in medicine and orthodontics is one of the most competitive specialties in dentistry. If you could start schooling all over, which one would you rather be and which would be a better career, money-wise? My thoughts: - I believe dermatology is a lot more competitive than orthodontics. A lot of applicants take years off in medical school JUST to do research. Having multiple publications is expected for a competitive applicant -... Neurology vs. Rheumatology Question
I have noticed some diseases with overlap between the two specialties. Who usually treats vascular immune disease such as primary angiitis of the CNS and giant cell arteritis? Similarly, who treats conditions such as polymalgia rheumatica, inclusion body myositis, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and other inflammatory or non inflammatory myopathies? I imagine that the immunotherapy can become quite complicated with the various immunosuppressant/immunomodulatory drugs out there. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
