Do I have a theme/narrative? How to improve it?
I am a first year premed so a lot of these activities I have not done yet but plan to relatively soon. It will say completed if that activity is done, ongoing if still present, and upcoming if in the future. Please let me know if there is any theme developing at all and suggestions for further developing it: Shadowing: 1. Insight for Gap Year Job
Hello! I'm a graduating senior planning on applying this cycle and have two job offers for my upcoming gap year. One option is to work as a research assistant in my undergraduate school's dermatology department, while the other is a medical assistant position (not certified) at a dermatology office. My ultimate goal is to match into dermatology, so I want to make sure I'm taking the right steps early on to maximize my chances, but also want to know what might look best on med school... WAMC/ School list feedback/What should I do?
Hi guys. I would love some feedback on my school list! I used admit.com to help me build this list and I sprinkled in some schools in my state (Massachusetts) that I would really want to attend so I want to shoot my shot. I really don't want to take the MCAT again but if I have to I will. ORM (ASIAN MALE) GPA: 3.95 MCAT: 509 (129,125,127,128) Clinical Hours: 2000+ hours as a medical assistant for a dermatology office. Room patients, collect chief complaints, assist in biopsies, Mohs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IM Resident planning to apply to Dermatology after Residency
I'm considering Dermatology now that I'm in Internal Medicine. I have below-average Step 2 CK score (235 to 240) when I got into IM. If I apply for Dermatology Residency upon completion of my IM Residency (and let's say Medicare Funding is not an issue for the programs I will be applying to), how much would my Step 2 CK play a factor considering that I will have Step 3 and IM Board Scores during application? Curious about potential Texas residency programs "rivalry"
Hi all! I am an incoming MS1 so a total newbie and very grateful for making it into medical school. I am considering dermatology as one of the specialties I want to explore in medical school to see if I'd be a good fit. I've been looking at Match Lists for the past few years out of curiosity and I am noticing (and someone mentioned it at some point during a presentation) that some programs don't seem to match students from other programs. Particularly, I have heard and noticed that UT... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Combined IM-Derm vs Complex med derm fellowships
Could someone provide insight into who should pursue combined med-derm residencies, compared to pursuing derm and doing a complex med derm fellowship if your ultimate goal is academic complex derm? I'm really interested in rheum-derm and onco-dermatology and want to practice at the intersection of these fields in the future, and was planning to apply to combined med-derm residencies, but have been told by some that these are a waste of time and can be accomplished through derm alone (+/- a... Pitt Med vs. Case Western
Hi All! We had a similar thread recently but I wanted to get into the nitty gritty of the two schools I'm debating between right now. Any and all insight is welcome For reference, both of these schools are OOS for me (from California) and I am interested in Dermatology. Case Western Pros Clearly made intentional efforts to support student well-being (friendly "Dream Team", specialized acceptance notification, decorated portal) My student interviewer was extremely... How can I match to a Southeast Texas Residency as an out of state medical student?
I recently was accepted to an In state New York Medical School (SUNY Downstate), and I'm very interested in Dermatology. That being said, my plan as it stands is to move to Houston or somewhere else in Southeast Texas for Residency. I know it's early for me in the journey as I haven't yet started medical school, but I understand Dermatology is an incredibly competitive field anywhere in the US. I am more than happy to take a gap year during medical school to pursue research and gain... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PSA for M1-2s: Step 1 studying
Hello all. Here's just a PSA since I know there's been some confusion about how to prepare for a P/F step (at least at my school). My goal here is not to make fun of anyone's study methods; I just want to help out the youngsters. UFAPS is still king. If you want to be a dermatologist, you should probably do this/mature all of AnKing. It'll help you excel third year and crush step 2. However, is all of UFAPS necessary to just pass? No, of course not. My recommendation: watch... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pitt vs. Brown vs. Case vs. Boston vs. OU
Hi all, I'm very grateful to be in a position where I get to decide between these five schools. I am almost shocked that I have the opportunity to go to medical school, let alone get to choose where I attend. Some background: I have a strong interest in dermatology and psychiatry. I would like to get involved in research in both of these areas and find mentorship as well. I’d like to go to a school that has strong residencies in these specialties to maximize my chances of matching... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are there any fields one would be looked down upon for entering based on their nature?
Personally, I don't think anyone should be judged as a physician by anything other than their merit. But a recent tweet by Andrew Huberman talked about his skepticism regarding visiting a dentist with bad teeth. Does this same logic extend to medicine? Could one, for example, face challenges being judged by patients or colleagues as a bald dermatologist, or as an opthalmologist that wears glasses? Keep in mind I am merely considering the way things are, not as they should be. No one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
