Analysing the genetic diversity of three sheep breeds in Turkey and nearby countries using 50 K SNPs data
This study analysed the genetic diversity and population structure of eight sheep breeds in Turkey and nearby countries. Moderate genetic diversity was observed, with the Sakiz (SKZ) exhibiting the highest diversity based on heterozygosity and allelic richness (AR) values. Genetic distances revealed differentiation between the populations, with the most significant divergence between the Cyprus Fat Tail (CFT) and SKZ breeds. PCA demonstrated SKZ and Chios (CHI) clustering together, indicating genetic similarity. Karakas (KRS), Norduz (NDZ), Afshari (AFS), Moghani (MOG) and others showed overlap, reflecting genetic relation...

An anti-inflammatory response of an organic food intervention by reducing pesticide exposures in children of Cyprus: A cluster-randomized crossover trial
The objectives were to i) determine the effectiveness of an organic food intervention in reducing the magnitude of an inflammation biomarker (CRP) in children (10-12 years) and ii) assess the association between the biomarkers of exposure to pesticides and CRP. This was part of the ORGANIKO cluster-randomized cross-over trial entailing a 40-day organic food treatment in healthy children. Urinary biomarkers of exposure to pesticides and inflammation (CRP) were measured using tandem mass spectrometry and ELISA immunoassay, respectively. Linear mixed-effect regression models of CRP were used to account for the effect and dura...

Validation and cultural adaptation of a Greek Version of Pediatric Eating Assessment Tool 10 (PEDI - EAT - 10) in Greek-Cypriot Parents
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the Greek version of PEDI-EAT-10 is shown to be a valid and reliable screening tool for the assessment of the pediatric population with a risk of dysphagia.PMID:38488276 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2328349 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Trends in mortality related to venous thromboembolism in the European Union, 2012 –2020
AbstractWe sought to assess the sex- and age-specific trends in venous thromboembolism (VTE) mortality in the 27 European Union Member States (EU-27) between years 2012 and 2020. Data on cause-specific deaths and population numbers by sex for each country of the EU-27 were retrieved through the publicly available European Statistical Office (EUROSTAT) dataset for the years 2012 –2020. VTE-related deaths were ascertained when ICD-10 codes I26, I80, and I82.9 were listed as the primary cause of death in the medical death certificate. To calculate annual trends, we assessed the average annual percent change (AAPC) with rela...

Effects of planned education on genital hygiene behavior of adolescent females in a secondary school: A quasi-experimental study in northern Cyprus
This study was conducted as a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to determine the effect of planned education on the genital hygiene behaviors of secondary school female students in northern Cypurs. The research was conducted with 290 adolescents. Data were collected by using a personal information form and the Genital Hygiene Behavior Scale (GHBS). The paired sample t-test was used to analyze the data. It was determined that only 55.2 % of the adolescents received genital hygiene training, 11.7% had a genital infection and 48.6% used cosmetic products for the genital area. After education, there was a statisticall...
