Posterior pericardiotomy and the prevention of post-operative atrial fibrillation and cardiac tamponade in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting – A retrospective analysis
Post-Operative Atrial Fibrillation (POAF) is the most frequent complication of cardiac surgery and is associated with reduced survival, increased rates of cognitive changes and cerebrovascular accidents, heart... (Source: Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery)

Surgical Coronary Revascularization in Patients With Underlying Atrial Fibrillation: State-of-the-Art Review
The number of individuals referred for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with preoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) is reported to be 8% to 20%. Atrial fibrillation is a known marker of high-risk patients as it was repeatedly found to negatively influence survival. Therefore, when performing surgical revascularization, consideration should be given to the concomitant treatment of the arrhythmia, the clinical consequences of the arrhythmia itself, and the selection of adequate surgical techniques. Early and Long-Term Results of Simultaneous and Staged Revascularization of Coronary and Carotid Arteries
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed no significant difference in the impact of simultaneous CABG + CEA or staged CABG/CEA on the incidence of death, stroke, MI, and MACEs over a 30-day and long-term follow-up period. Although the immediate results indicated an increased risk of a complicated course (attributable to overall complications) and more prolonged ventilation after simultaneous CABG + CEA compared with staged CABG/CEA, this did not lead to an increase in fatal complications. Therefore, the implementation of either tactic is considered eligible and appropriate following a thorough operative risk assessment.PMID:386514...

A case of coronary artery compression syndrome resulting from peri-valvular regurgitation and long-standing atrial fibrillation
J Cardiol Cases. 2024 Jan 6;29(4):157-160. doi: 10.1016/j.jccase.2023.12.003. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTA man in his 70s with a history of mitral valve replacement (MVR) and long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) presented with effort angina. Coronary angiography revealed severe stenosis of the left main coronary artery (LMCA). As it was an emergent case, PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) was selected for treatment. Intravascular ultrasonography revealed no atherosclerotic lesions in the LMCA. The LMCA was effectively dilated by the drug-eluting stent. No elevation in intracardiac pressure was observed...

Outcomes of management strategies in patients with prior coronary artery bypass grafting presenting with an acute coronary syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with prior CABG presenting with an ACS are often treated conservatively without PCI, which is associated with a higher risk of adverse events.PMID:38643672 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117477 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Partial CArdiac Denervation to prevent PostOperative Atrial Fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting (pCAD-POAF): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of partial cardiac denervation, which is achieved by cutting off the ligament of Marshall and resecting the fat pad along the Waterston groove, on the prevention of POAF after CABG. Patients planned for CABG at our center will be screened for eligibility for this study. (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)
