Sometimes just watching hurts -- and the signs of pain are seen in the brain
(Aalto University) Some people claim to experience pain just watching something painful to happen. In complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) patients, both own movements and observing other persons' movements may aggravate the pain. Researchers found that when CRPS patients feel pain caused by observing other person's movements, their brains display abnormal activation in many areas that respond to normal physical pain. Thar Pharmaceuticals acquired by German company
Pittsburgh-based Thar Pharmaceuticals has been acquired by Gr ünenthal, a German-based pharmaceutical company. A purchase price wasn't disclosed.
Grünenthal said in a statement Wednesday announcing the purchase that Thar's compound, T121, would be used to help expand its own treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is marked by severe and persiste nt pain. The deal includes the worldwide development and commercialization rights for T121.

St. Jude Medical’s Axium chronic pain device makes its U.S. debut
St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) today announced the U.S. debut of its Axium neurostimulator system, after the device won FDA approval in February for treating chronic pain.
The 1st patients were implanted in West Virginia and California with the Axium device, which uses dorsal root ganglion stimulation to treat moderate to severe chronic intractable pain of the lower limbs in adult patients with complex regional pain syndrome, St. Jude said. The Axium is slated to be implanted in 25 states in the coming weeks, with 100 procedures due in the 1st month after launch, the Little Canada, Minn.-based company said.
