Trends in Utilization and Medicare Spending on Short-Course Radiotherapy for Breast and Prostate Cancer: An Episode-Based Analysis from 2015-2019
Evidence supports the value of shorter, similarly efficacious, and potentially more cost-effective hypofractionated radiotherapy (RT) regimens in many clinical scenarios for breast cancer (BC) and prostate cancer (PC). However, practice patterns vary considerably. We used the most recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data to assess trends in RT cost and practice patterns among episodes of BC and PC. IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 7136: Effectiveness of Transitional Care Program among High-Risk Discharged Patients: A Quasi-Experimental Study on Saving Costs, Post-Discharge Readmissions and Emergency Department Visits
We examined the effectiveness of TCPs at reducing healthcare costs, hospital readmissions, and ED visits. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) program adjudicated claims files and electronic health records from Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC, were accessed. Data on post-discharge 30- and 90-day ED visits and readmissions, total costs, and episodes with costs over BPCI target prices were extracted from November 2017 to July 2020 and compared between the “TCP-Graduates” (N = 85) and “Did Not Graduate” (DNG...

CO76 Does Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Improve Outcome in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)? A Real-World Data (RWD) Example
The objective of this analysis was to evaluate the impact of sequencing versus point mutation testing on outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using real-world data (RWD). Over time, there has been a shift in recommendations from single-gene or small-panel testing to broader genomic profiling with next-generation sequencing (NGS). In 2018, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) established the first national coverage for NGS for NSCLC. Since then, both CMS and compendial recommendations have continued to evolve, with increasing emphasis on NGS. (Source: Value in Health)

The Value of History and Physical Examination to Optimize Outcomes of Cataract Surgery: A Systematic Review
AANA J. 2023 Dec;91(6):449-454.ABSTRACTThis systematic review was conducted to examine the value of the preoperative history and physical (H&P) examination and preoperative care prior to cataract extraction and the resulting outcomes of adverse events, patient experience, and cost. Four databases were searched using appropriate keywords from 2012 to 2022. Observational studies, randomized controlled trials, and quality improvement studies with data on the precataract H&P were included. Outcome measures were adverse events, cost, and patient experience. Of the 4,170 studies screened, 12 studies were included. Risk s...
