Atorvastatin for reduction of 28-day mortality in severe and critical COVID-19 patients: a randomized controlled trial
COVID-19 is an abnormal host response to the SARS-CoV-2 infection, which is associated with endothelial dysfunction and multi-organ failure. Atorvastatin has been proposed to reduce COVID-19 severity and morta... (Source: Respiratory Research)

Effects of < em > Lizhong Tongmai < /em > acupuncture on TMAO, CD36 expression, and cholesterol deposition in atherosclerotic mice
CONCLUSIONS: The Lizhong Tongmai acupuncture can ameliorate aortic pathological changes, regulate blood lipid levels, reduce plasma TMAO level, inhibit CD36 protein expression in the aorta, and decrease cholesterol deposition. These effects may contribute to the therapeutic mechanism of EA in treating AS.PMID:38373762 | DOI:10.13703/j.0255-2930.20230606-0001 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Improved Dissolution Properties of Co-amorphous Probucol with Atorvastatin Calcium Trihydrate Prepared by Spray-Drying
Chem Pharm Bull (Tokyo). 2024;72(2):190-199. doi: 10.1248/cpb.c23-00673.ABSTRACTA co-amorphous model drug was prepared by the spray-drying (SD) of probucol (PC) and atorvastatin calcium trihydrate salt (ATO) as low water solubility and co-former components, respectively. The physicochemical properties of the prepared samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis, thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and dissolution tests. Stability tests were also conducted under a stress environment of 40 °C and 75% relative humidity. The results of PXRD measurements and thermal analy...

Non-lamellar lyotropic liquid crystalline nanoparticles as nanocarriers for enhanced drug encapsulation of atorvastatin calcium and proanthocyanidins
Chem Phys Lipids. 2024 Feb 5:105377. doi: 10.1016/j.chemphyslip.2024.105377. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtorvastatin calcium (ATV) and proanthocyanidins (PAC) have a strong antioxidant activity, that can benefit to reduce the atherosclerotic plaque progression. Unfortunately, the bioavailability of ATV is greatly reduced due to its limited drug solubility while the PAC drug is unstable upon exposure to the atmospheric oxygen. Herein, the lyotropic liquid crystalline nanoparticles (LLCNPs) constructed by a binary mixture of soy phosphatidylcholine (SPC) and citric acid ester of monoglyceride (citrem) at different weight ...

Statins aggravate insulin resistance through reduced blood glucagon-like peptide-1 levels in a microbiota-dependent manner
Cell Metab. 2024 Feb 6;36(2):408-421.e5. doi: 10.1016/j.cmet.2023.12.027.ABSTRACTStatins are currently the most common cholesterol-lowering drug, but the underlying mechanism of statin-induced hyperglycemia is unclear. To investigate whether the gut microbiome and its metabolites contribute to statin-associated glucose intolerance, we recruited 30 patients with atorvastatin and 10 controls, followed up for 16 weeks, and found a decreased abundance of the genus Clostridium in feces and altered serum and fecal bile acid profiles among patients with atorvastatin therapy. Animal experiments validated that statin could induce g...
