A radiotherapy community data-driven approach to determine which complexity metrics best predict the impact of atypical TPS beam modeling on clinical dose calculation accuracy
CONCLUSION: Extreme values for MLC offset and MLC transmission beam modeling parameters were found to most substantially impact the dose distribution of clinical plans and careful attention should be given to these beam modeling parameters. The mean MLC Gap and TGi complexity metrics were best suited to identifying clinical plans most sensitive to beam modeling errors; this could help provide focus for clinical QA in identifying unacceptable plans.PMID:38427776 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14318 (Source: Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics)

YAP/TEAD involvement in resistance to paclitaxel chemotherapy in lung cancer
Mol Cell Biochem. 2024 Mar 1. doi: 10.1007/s11010-024-04949-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Yes-associated protein (YAP) oncoprotein has been linked to both metastases and resistance to targeted therapy of lung cancer cells. We aimed to investigate the effect of YAP pharmacological inhibition, using YAP/TEA domain (TEAD) transcription factor interaction inhibitors in chemo-resistant lung cancer cells. YAP subcellular localization, as a readout for YAP activation, cell migration, and TEAD transcription factor functional transcriptional activity were investigated in cancer cell lines with up-regulated YAP, with and with...

18F-FDG and 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT in Paratesticular Mesothelioma
Clin Nucl Med. 2024 Apr 1;49(4):332. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000005123.ABSTRACTA 66-year-old man with local prostate adenocarcinoma underwent radical prostatectomy (Gleason score 3 + 4 = 7, pT2c) in 2016. Four years later, he presented with a hydrocele and cystic atypical change in the left scrotum and soft tissue in the left groin. Final histopathology revealed spermatic cord mesothelioma and left hemangiosis carcinomatosa. A bone biopsy of the sacrum revealed infiltrates of a prostatic adenocarcinoma with small cell neuroendocrine differentiation. Dual-tracer PET/CT imaging using 18F-FDG and 68Ga-PSMA was able to identif...

Impact of Surgery on Disease Progression and Survival of Patients with Pleural Mesothelioma
CONCLUSIONS: Overall survival and progression-free survival were significantly better in surgery than in refusal of surgery. Surgery may improve the survival outcomes of patients with pleural mesothelioma.PMID:38428631 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2024.02.022 (Source: The Annals of Thoracic Surgery)

Successful treatment of simultaneous malignant pleural mesothelioma and pulmonary adenocarcinoma: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 15;27(4):155. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14288. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTThe present report described the case of a 74-year-old male patient with asbestos exposure whose chest computed tomography revealed a right lower lobe nodule and right pleural effusion. Pleural biopsy led to the diagnosis of epithelial malignant pleural mesothelioma (cT2N0M0, stage IB). Combination therapy with cisplatin + pemetrexed led to the complete remission of malignant pleural mesothelioma; however, the right lower lobe nodule grew in size over time. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma (cT1aN0M0, s...
