Identification of novel hypermethylated or hypomethylated CpG sites and genes associated with anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy
This report used participants from a matched case-control study; 52 non-Hispanic White, anthracycline-exposed childhood cancer survivors with cardiomyopathy were matched 1:1 with 52 survivors with no cardiomyopathy. Paired ChAMP (Chip Analysis Methylation Pipeline) with integrated reference-based deconvolution of adult peripheral blood DNA methylation was used to analyze data from Illumina HumanMethylation EPIC BeadChip arrays. An epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) was performed, and the model was adjusted for GrimAge, sex, interaction terms of age at enrollment, chest radiation, age at diagnosis squared, and cardiova...

Financial hardship in childhood cancer survivors treated with hematopoietic cell transplant: A report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study
CONCLUSIONS: Adult survivors of childhood cancer treated with HCT do not report greater overall financial hardship compared to non-HCT survivors; but greater overall financial hardship compared to sibling controls. Surveillance and intervention may be necessary for all survivors regardless of HCT status.PMID:37541329 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtct.2023.07.024 (Source: Cancer Control)

Community coalitions for smoke-free environments in Armenia and Georgia: A mixed methods analysis of coalition formation, implementation and perceived effectiveness
PLoS One. 2023 Aug 3;18(8):e0289149. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0289149. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTEffective models for aligning public health and civil society at the local level have the potential to impact various global health issues, including tobacco. Georgia and Armenia Teams for Healthy Environments and Research (GATHER) is a collaboration between Armenia, Georgia and U.S. researchers involving a community randomized trial testing the impact of community coalitions to promote smoke-free policy adoption and compliance in various settings. Community Coalition Action Theory (CCAT) was used to guide and describe coalitio...

Financial hardship in childhood cancer survivors treated with hematopoietic cell transplant: A report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study
Advances in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) techniques and supportive care have resulted in an expanding population of HCT survivors.1-2 In the United States (US), it is estimated that there will be more than a half-million long-term survivors of adult and childhood cancers treated with HCT by the year 2030, including approximately 70,000 survivors who underwent HCT at (Source: Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation)

Financial Hardship in Childhood Cancer Survivors Treated with Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: A Report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study
Advances in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) techniques and supportive care have resulted in an expanding population of HCT survivors [1,2]. In the United States, it is estimated that by the year 2030, there will be more than 500,000 long-term survivors of adult and childhood cancers treated with HCT, including approximately 70,000 survivors who underwent HCT at age (Source: Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation)

Human platelet lysate stimulates neurotrophic properties of human adipose-derived stem cells better than Schwann cell-like cells
CONCLUSIONS: All together, our results show that HPL-ASCs were more neurotrophic than SC-ASCs. We highlighted that the HPL triggers an immature neuro-induction state of ASCs, while keeping their stem properties, paving the way for innovative therapies for nerve regeneration.PMID:37480149 | PMC:PMC10362751 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-023-03407-3 (Source: Cell Research)
