Clemson experts study proper vomit cleanup in long-term care facilities
(Clemson University) Vomit can create huge health concerns and for the more than 2 million people currently living in long-term care facilities and proper cleanup is critical to preventing the spread of disease. A group of Clemson University researchers is part of a team that has received a $1.5 million grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study vomit cleanup. Data Flash: RIP PubMed Health
This is not exactly a data post, but, the loss of a trusted source for clinical effectiveness research will have its effects on the dataverse.  PubMed Health is being discontinued as of this coming Wednesday.  As any of my colleagues can tell you, I’m taking the loss of PubMed Health hard– I loved showing it to people at various conferences, and using it myself– I found it a wonderful mid-point between MedlinePlus.gov and PubMed.gov, and it also had some great methodology resources and a glossary.  All of its content will be findable in other ways though! AHRQ: Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection; Comment Request
Announcement from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) allowing for an additional 30 day comment period on an information collection related to the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Clinician and Group Survey Database. The Database contains data from AHRQ's standardized surveys which measure patient experiences with physicians and staff in healthcare practices. The first comment period, opened on July 16, 2018, did not receive any substantive comments. New comments are due by November 5, 2018. Severe Complications Rise Sharply Among Women Giving Birth in Hospitals
According to a report just released by AHRQ, the proportion of women who experienced serious complications while giving birth in U.S. hospitals rose 45% between 2006 and 2015.
