Safety program for surgical patients sharply drops surgical site infections
(American College of Surgeons) Surgical site infections (SSIs) in patients undergoing colorectal operations were reduced by 61 percent in less than two years in Hawaiian hospitals participating in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Safety Program for Surgery, according to new study findings published as an 'article in press' on the website of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons ahead of print. Federal funding through AHRQ will no longer be available to support the NQMC as of that date. AHRQ is receiving expressions of interest from stakeholders interested in carrying on NQMC ' s work. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. 11/2017 This 106-page report summarizes a review to determine optimal doses, routes of administration, and dosing strategies of naloxone for suspected opioid overdose in out-of-hospital settings, and whether transport to a hospital following successful opioid overdose reversal with naloxone is necessary. It found that more research is needed to determine optimal doses of naloxone, appropriate timing of repeat dosing, and whether it is necessary to dose patients to full consciousness.
