Regional Differences in the Outcomes of Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation in the United States
We examined such variations by analyzing procedural complications and in-hospital outcomes among patients undergoing AF ablation utilizing the National Inpatient Sample (NIS), a collaborative effort between federal, state, and industry stakeholders sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), captures hospital data from over 7 million discharges annually, representing approximately 20% of nonfederal hospital discharges across all 50 states (1). Anesthesia Medication Safety in Relation to Pharmacopeia Medication Use Best Practice Initiatives
AANA J. 2024 Apr;92(2):93-103.ABSTRACTImprovement to anesthesia medication safety is a useful and worthwhile area of research. Anesthesia is one of the few healthcare professions to have immediate access to compounding and label high-hazard medications at the bedside. There is a need to assess the perceptions of anesthesia medication safety and this relationship with pharmacopeia's updated recommendations for anesthesia to improve medication safety and prevent adverse drug events. Certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) perceptions of medication safety climate in Florida were measured utilizing a validated Likert-sca...

What AHRQ Learned While Working to Transform Primary Care
Ann Fam Med. 2024 Mar-Apr;22(2):161-166. doi: 10.1370/afm.3090.ABSTRACTBuilding on previous efforts to transform primary care, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) launched EvidenceNOW: Advancing Heart Health in 2015. This 3-year initiative provided external quality improvement support to small and medium-size primary care practices to implement evidence-based cardiovascular care. Despite challenges, results from an independent national evaluation demonstrated that the EvidenceNOW model successfully boosted the capacity of primary care practices to improve quality of care, while helping to advance heart he...
