Obstructive sleep apnea affects the psychological and behavioural development of children-a case-control study
This study aims to investigate the effects of obstructive sleep apnea on paediatric psychological and behavioural abnormalities. A total of 1086 paediatric patients with obstructive sleep apnea and 728 sample snoring controls were enrolled in the study. Patients with obstructive sleep apnea underwent bilateral tonsillectomy plus adenoidectomy or adenoidectomy alone. Repeated Autism Behaviour Checklist, Spence Children's Anxiety Scale, and Children's Depression Inventory were performed to assess the autism symptoms, anxiety level and depressive symptoms before and after surgery. The score of Autism Behaviour Checklist in pr...

Adenotonsillectomy in Arnold Chiari Malformation: Navigating Surgical Complexities
AbstractNavigating Surgical Complexities associated with a case of Adenotonsillectomy in Arnold Chiari Malformation type 2. Arnold-Chiari or Chiari malformations (ACM) describe a group of deformities of the posterior fossa and hindbrain, which includes the cerebellum, pons, and medulla oblongata. Sleep-disordered breathing is a known but poorly evaluated comorbidity in patients with ACM. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in children is mainly caused by tonsillar and adenoid hypertrophy, and surgical resection of the palatine tonsils and adenoids is indicated depending on OSA severity. A 4-year-old male child suffering from Ar...

Do nasal and nasopharyngeal obstruction and their medical-surgical deobstruction significantly influence facial divergence? A concise review of major clinical studies with meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Early detection of respiratory obstacles and postural abnormalities associated with oral breathing appears to be decisive in order to hope for management at a young age and normalization of the direction of growth. However, the effects on mandibular divergence remain limited, requiring caution, and cannot be considered a surgical indication.PMID:37114816 | DOI:10.1684/orthodfr.2023.117 (Source: L' Orthodontie Francaise)
