Lipid accumulation-induced hepatocyte senescence regulates the activation of hepatic stellate cells through the Nrf2-antioxidant response element pathway

In conclusion, this study confirmed that lipid accumulation induces hepatocyte senescence, which leads to HSC activation and development of hepatic fibrosis. Increasing the activity of the Nrf2-ARE antioxidant pathway in senescent hepatocytes elicited the opposite effect, suggesting that targeting Nrf2 may prevent or delay the progression of aging-related liver fibrosis in NASH.PMID:34107274 | DOI:10.1016/j.yexcr.2021.112689
