Prevalence of periapical abscesses in patients with hypertension: a cross-sectional study of a large hospital population.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is common and remains one of the most significant causes of mortality worldwide. It is the prime global burden of cardiovascular disease and its prevalence is estimated to increase substantially by the year 2025 (1). Elevated blood pressure is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease and its complications, heart failure, stroke, renal insufficiency, and blindness in diabetic patients. Global burden of disease studies estimated that hypertension is now the leading risk factor for disability and altered quality of life worldwide (2-3).
