Therefore, we have an unprecedented opportunity to focus on prevention of atherosclerosis before cardiovascular events occur, an endeavor that needs expert intervention with cardiovascular risk assessment, risk factor management, lifestyle counseling, dietary interventions, use of natural supplements, and pharmacotherapy. It is time for the budding specialty of preventive cardiology to come to the fore, from the historic background of fragmented clinical services such as lipid, hypertension, diabetes, endocrine, and cardiology clinics. Many patients need this specialized service, which cannot be provided anywhere else but in a dedicated practice well integrated with all other hospital services.
