Hypertension is a global health concern and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD).1 The latest estimated global prevalence of adults with hypertension is 1.13 billion, and is tending to increase.2 As the leading factor in the overall global burden of disease,3 hypertension is associated with a high prevalence of risk factors for CVD, such as prediabetes, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol and triglycerides,4,5 which cause stroke, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and kidney disease.
