Differential characteristics of acute heart failure in very elderly patients: the prospective RICA study.
CONCLUSIONS: The AHF in patients nonagenarians has a different clinical profile compared to younger patients and a higher mortality. In this subgroup of patients having a worse baseline functional status, higher NYHA classification (III-IV), and renal failure are predictors of 90-day mortality. Authors: Rayis DA, Musa IR, Al-Shafei AI, Moheldein AH, El-Gendy OA, Adam I Abstract A longitudinal study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and risk factors (including haemoglobin levels) for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Khartoum, Sudan. The study was carried out at Saad Abuelela Hospital (Khartoum, Sudan) during February to November 2017. Pregnant women in early pregnancy (gestational age 10.8 g/dl were at a higher risk of GDM (OR = 2.52, 95% CI = 1.02 - 6.27, p = .044). There is a high prevalence of GDM, especially among women with high haemoglobin levels.I...

CONCLUSIONS: Adapting the HTW definition might improve specificity to assess cardiovascular risk in the population with CKD. It identifies an additional CVR in a population in which other screening methods have not proven to be useful, and it is easily clinically accessible. Its interaction with phosphorus levels suggests an association between HTW and bone-mineral metabolism regulation. PMID: 32493675 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
