Early and late outcomes of aortic surgery under hypothermic circulatory arrest in the elderly: a single center study.
The objective of this study is to analyze early and late outcomes of aortic surgery with hypothermic circulatory arrest in patients aged 70 and above at our institution. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study including every patient aged 70 years or older who underwent aortic surgery with hypothermic circulatory arrest between January 1995 and June 2016 at our institution. Operative results were compared with the contemporary younger counterparts aged

In this study, we determined the relationships between serum sclerostin and all-cause mortality, the prevalence of cardiovascular events (CVEs), and coronary artery calcifications (CACs) in dialysis patients. Methods: A total of 165 dialysis patients (84 hemodialysis [HD] and 81 peritoneal dialysis [PD]) were enrolled in this study. We performed multivariable linear regression analysis to test the relationships between serum sclerostin levels and demographics and clinical parameters. We also performed Cox proportional hazard regression analysis to determine independent predictors of overall survival and CVEs.Results: The me...

Benign M üllerian papillomas have been described in patients as a rare tumor of the female genital tract. Symptoms typically arise as pre-pubertal vaginal bleeding with findings of a polypoid mass originating in the cervix or vagina. However, a vaginal squamous papilloma in a menarchal patient has not yet b een described in the literature. We will describe a case of recurrent squamous vaginal lesion in a 12 year old female.
For malnourished patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD), refeeding is complex; true weight (dry weight) gain must be accounted for as it accrues in order to safely dialyze. This case describes the challenge of following true weight to appropriately adjust treatment for a patient with ESRD on HD requiring inpatient refeeding.
Conclusion: Frozen Elephant Trunk is a feasible technique and should be considered. The severity of the underlying disease justifies high mortality rates. The learning curve is a reality. This approach allows treatment of more than two segments at once. Nonetheless, if a second stage is made necessary, it is facilitated.
CONCLUSIONS Moderate-to-deep hypothermia combined with targeted reconstruction of the AKA provided satisfactory outcomes with thoraco-abdominal aortic repair, particularly for spinal cord protection.
