Meta-analysis of gene expression for development and validation of a diagnostic biomarker panel for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Comput Biol Chem. 2019 Jul 02;82:74-79 Authors: Makarov V, Gorlin A Abstract We use a newly developed feature extraction and classification method to analyze previously published gene expression data sets in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma and in healthy oral mucosa in order to find a gene set sufficient for diagnoses. The feature selection technology is based on the relative dichotomy power concept published by us earlier. The resulting biomarker panel has 100% sensitivity and 95% specificity, is enriched in genes associated with oncogenesis and invasive tumor growth, and, unlike marker panels devised in earlier studies, shows concordance with previously published marker genes. ConclusionsAt the 400 μg dose level no substantial changes in PD parameters were noted. Extrapolating from pre-clinical data, the dose examined in this cohort was too low to achieve the Se plasma concentration (≥ 5 μM) expected to elicit significant PD effects. Recruitment of a subsequent cohort at higher doses to exceed this PK threshold is planned.

Conclusions: The accurate diagnosis of synchronous malignancies is challenging because they rarely occur. We suggest a scrupulous re-biopsy of extranodal lesions in patients with lymphoma to improve the diagnostic accuracy of related double primary tumors. Age, performance status, symptoms, pathological types, and tumor staging should be considered when formulating a treatment strategy. The systemic treatment regimens should include drugs targeting the synchronous tumors in question, and these remain to be explored further.

Leucoderma, female patient, 49 years old, sought medical care complaining of “injury in the jaw.” She had a history of treatment of various squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the skin. In extraoral clinical examination noted papillomatous lesions on the face, suggestive clinical picture of CEC and intraoral examination revealed to be dentate upper and lower part without lo cal changes. Radiographic examination detected 3 radiolucent lesions, well delineated with radiopaque halo body region, bilateral mandibular branch and left posterior maxilla.
Conclusions According these findings it seems conceivable to assume that the up-regulation of TLR4 in some KCOTs can be correlated somehow to their tendency recurrence.
