Offer weight loss surgery to obese people with diabetes
A quarter of the UK population is now obese, fuelling a rise in cases of type 2 diabetes, as well as heart disease, fatty liver disease and cancer. One in 20 people in the UK has type 2 diabetes, a progressive disease that causes heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and limb amputations.
Updated NICE guidance focuses on identifying, assessing and treating people who are already obese.
