TegiacchiAbstractIntroductionAcupuncture had different approaches since its beginnings. Using traditional energetic points with an interaction of five elements and meridian theories with manual diagnosis of tender points has been proposed. This procedure can be an effective treatment for musculoskeletal disease, but its development is short.ObjectivesTo evaluate the efficacy of energetic points of tendinomuscular meridian in the treatment of pain, quality of life, and function of the knee.DesignNonstandardized, double-blind, and randomized controlled trial. Inclusions criteria were being aged above 45 years, having had pain for more than 3 months, level II or greater in Kellgren–Lawrence, and suffering morning stiffness. Exclusion criteria were patients treated with arthroplasty, corticosteroids, and rehabilitation and patients having arthropathies, autoimmune diseases, and neuropathic pain.ResultsIntervention group showed significant improvement in average pain in the last 15 days at end of treatment (p

If self-care steps for back pain such as gentle activity, local heat, or massage don’t ease discomfort within a few weeks to a month, or if you struggle with chronic low back pain, a physiatrist can help you navigate the dizzying number of treatment options. These range from conservative therapies (such as medicines, physical therapy, and chiropractic care) to more invasive options (such as spine injections and spinal surgery). What is a physiatrist? Physiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation. We focus on holistic, nonsurgical care aimed at improving function for people wh...

We present a case in which it was strongly suspected that AVN of the scaphoid was induced by repeated local glucocorticoid injections. The patient had no history of excessive alcohol use, smoking, or trauma, except for local repeated steroid injections. Diagnoses: Initially, she had diagnosed with de Quervain's disease and was treated by repeated local glucocorticoid injections followed by surgery for de Quervain's disease. Five years after surgery for de Quervain's disease, the patient presented at our hospital with sudden onset of intolerable pain in her right wrist without a history of trauma. In spite of nonsurgical...

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an extreme form of inflammatory arthritis which always leads to bony fusion of vertebral and chronic pain of back. A lot of genes including interleukin, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase were found associated with AS. MMP family members were involved in the autoimmune disease and orthopedic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, while few studies concentrated on the correlation between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MMP and AS. In addition, there is no report on the relationship between MMP-8 and AS. To investigate the ass...

This study indicates that frailty and other age-related diseases could be prevented and significantly reduced in older adults. Getting our heart risk factors under control could lead to much healthier old ages. Unfortunately, the current obesity epidemic is moving the older population in the wrong direction, however our study underlines how even small reductions in risk are worthwhile." The study analysed data from more than 421,000 people aged 60-69 in both GP medical records and in the UK Biobank research study. Participants were followed up over ten years. The researchers analysed six factors that could impa...

Discussion of advocacy for the cause is a usual feature of our community, as we try things and attempt to make progress in persuading the world that rejuvenation research is plausible, practical, and necessary. There are more people engaged in advocacy now than at any time in the past decade, and so discussions of strategy come up often. New ventures kicked off in 2017 include the Geroscience online magazine, and among the existing ventures the LEAF / Lifespan.io volunteers seem to be hitting their stride. The mainstream media continues to be as much a hindrance as a help, and where it is a help you will usually find Aubre...

In this study, we demonstrate that irrespective of the derivation of CD8+ CD45RA+CD27- T cells, these primed cells exhibit a unique highly inflammatory secretory profile characteristic of the SASP, and we also provide evidence that ADAM28 can be used as a functional marker of senescence in CD8+ T cells. Furthermore, we show that the secretory phenotype in CD8+ CD45RA+CD27- T cells is controlled through p38 MAPK signalling, which contributes to age-associated inflammation. Vicki has shared her story on a number of occasions on the Wheat Belly 10-Day Grain Detox Private Facebook page. Because Vicki’s experience is such an incredible story of success despite some overwhelming health odds, coupled with a wonderful attitude of optimism, I am re-posting several of her comments/updates she has provided over the past 15 months, including her most recent update. While Vicki’s structural issues, such as her retroflex odontoid bone, cannot be reversed with the Wheat Belly lifestyle, the dramatic reduction of inflammation that develops is often sufficient to reverse much, if not all, of the...
