Uranium, polonium and thorium were measured by alpha spectrometry, 40K and 137Cs by gamma spectrometry and 226Ra by liquid scintillation. The concentrations were 50.6±46.3, 0.023±0.010, 0.019±0.017, 0.27±0.40 Bqkg-1 for 40K, 238U, 234U and 210Po respectively. 235U, 228T...

The effects of adding L-phenylalanine (Phe) during 2-PEA production were investigated in the co-fermentation of Hanseniaspora vineae (HV6) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae BDX. BDX and HV6 strains overproduced 2-phenylethyl alcohol (2-PE) and 2-PEA, respectively. The co-fermentation of BDX and HV6 achieved a 14.9 fold increase in 2-PEA odour activity value (OAV) b...

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytic proliferation that occurs in nodal and extranodal sites. Rare examples of the disease involving the digestive system have been described. To characterize the digestive tract manifestations of this disease, 12 specimens from 11 patients with extranodal RDD affecting the digestive organs were analyzed. Hematoxylin and eosin sections and available immunohistochemical stains were reviewed, and the clinical information was obtained from patients’ electronic or submitted records. Eight patients were female and 3 male (median age, 65 y; range, 17 t...

Authors: Ikuno T, Ito S, Inoue T Abstract Mast cells are key players in the inflammatory response with an important role in allergic reactions and are therefore useful for assessing the risk of anaphylaxis. However, they are difficult to isolate due to their low abundance and wide distribution. To overcome this, we generated and characterized mast cell-like cells derived from human induced pluripotent stem (hiPS) cells. These hiPS cell-derived mast cells (hiPS-MCs) were generated using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4), vascular endothelial growth factor 165 (VEGF), stem cell factor (SCF), inter...

o O. May Tzuc A. Bassam In this work, 10 chemometric models based on Raman spectroscopy were constructed to predict the physicochemical properties of honey produced in the state of Campeche, Mexico. The properties of honey studied were pH, moisture, total soluble solids (TSS), free acidity, lactonic acidity, total acidity, electrical conductivity, Redox potential, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and ash content. These proprieties were obtained according to the methods described by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists, Codex Alimentarius, and the International Honey Commission. For the construction of the ch...

In this report, a 60 years old woman with a past medical history of significant chronic kidney disease undergoing regular hemodialysis, chronic constipation and hepatitis B was admitted to our neurology clinic because of acute intracerebral hemorrhage. She had confusion and right hemiplegia in her neurological examination and required urinary catheterization due to immobilization. Red coloration was observed in urine on the tenth hospital day. Although this coloration was thought to be hematuria, according to urine examination it was not hematuria. Then urine color turned into purple within two days. The next day, because ...
