Comparison of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy in a private cord blood bank to an epidemiological sample

Conclusions and ImplicationsThe results of this analysis suggest that while children diagnosed with CP and with access to stored CB differ from a broader population sample in terms of demographics, they have similar clinical severity and comorbidity profiles. As such, LUSTRE may serve as a valuable source of data for the characterization of individuals with CP, including individuals who have or will receive CB infusions.

Conclusions Among young and middle-aged adults with CP, mood (affective) disorders were associated with pain, sleep disorders, and fatigue, and increasing co-occurrence of these factors further increased the likelihood of mood (affective) disorders. Further, comorbid neurodevelopmental conditions were also associated with mood (affective) disorders among adults with CP. Study findings could be used to improve screening strategies for mood (affective) disorders among adults with CP in the clinical setting.

In conclusion, school-aged children with CP very often screened positive for ASD and/or ADHD. The prevalence of ASD and ADHD is most likely underestimated in children with CP. These screening findings require further investigations.

ConclusionsThe findings suggest that the stigma associated with parenting a child with disabilities may be one mechanism that places such parents at risk for poor health. Efforts to alleviate the stigma associated with developmental disorders or mental health problems may have beneficial effects on health of parents of individuals with such conditions.

CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that a diagnosis of confirmed isolated mild ventriculomegaly was associated with an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders compared to the reference population, but the absolute risk was low and there were no cases of intellectual disability or cerebral palsy.
