More Annoyance

I try to eat and drink healthy. I try to avoid premade'chemical'food and use whole ingredients, meaning real, unprocessed food. In the mornings it may not be wise to get between me and my first cup of coffee. Later in the day, I like my herbal tea for its flavors and lack of caffeine anytime after 10 am. My husband makes fun of all the different kinds of herbal teas I have. I just like to be able to choose which one I am in the mood for.I also subscribe to tips from WebMD to help keep me up on how to be healthier, what to do or eat or what not to. Usually I find this helpful. But not yesterday.I got an email ongood and bad herbal teas. I know there are some herbs in teas that can interact with medications. I made a point of reading the information each of the herbal teas and stopped at Rooibos because I don't know much about it and I know I have some. This is what I learned:" It comes from a plant native to South Africa, and the drink there is called redbush tea. It ’s caffeine-free and is often touted for its antioxidants. Some researchers believe, based on studies done on animals, that this herb may boost the immune system and help prevent cancer. They are also looking into whether it can benefit your heart and fight diabetes. Check with your doctor before you use it if you have a hormone-sensitive cancer or you’re on chemotherapy. "Did you read that last sentence? Hormone sensitive cancer? That's me. Now I have to sort through all my teas to pull out a...

Abstract Advances in oncologic therapies have allowed to achieve better outcomes and longer survival in many patients with breast cancer. Anthracyclines are cytotoxic antibiotics widely used in daily oncology practice. However, anthracyclines cause cardiotoxicity which is a limiting factor of its use. Cumulative dose of anthracyclines is the major cause of induced cardiotoxicity. According to previous clinical trials, the major predisposing high-risk factors for anthracycline-based chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity are age, body weight, female gender, radiotherapy, and other diseases such as diabetes and hyperte...

ConclusionThe results suggest the need for monitoring non-hematological reactions during the docetaxel phase of FAC-D treatment. The factors related to more severe reactions depend on the chemotherapy protocol used.

Metformin use has been linked to pathologic complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy for several malignancies. We aimed to investigate the association of diabetes mellitus (DM) and metformin use with pCR in breast cancer.

AbstractBackground.Immune checkpoint inhibitors are active in a broad range of cancers, including programmed death ligand 1 (PD‐L1)‐positive, triple‐negative, metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity is a mechanism of action of trastuzumab. We performed a phase Ib trial of durvalumab and trastuzumab in HER2‐positive MBC previously treated with chemotherapy and anti‐HER2 antibodies to assess safety, efficacy, and correlative endpoints.Patients and Methods.Patients with HER2‐positive MBC were enrolled on a standard 3 + 3 design. Dose level 1 was durvalumab (1,125 mg intrav...

In this study, we hypothesized that moderately and chronically reducing ACh could attenuate the deleterious effects of aging on NMJs and skeletal muscles. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed NMJs and muscle fibers from heterozygous transgenic mice with reduced expression of the vesicular ACh transporter (VAChT), VKDHet mice, which present with approximately 30% less synaptic ACh compared to control mice. Because ACh is constitutively decreased in VKDHet, we first analyzed developing NMJs and muscle fibers. We found no obvious morphological or molecular differences between NMJs and muscle fibers of VKDHet and contro...

AbstractBackgroundThe android:gynoid percent fat ratio (AGFR) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes in breast cancer survivors (BCS). Exercise reduces fat mass in BCS; however, few studies have focused on AGFR. The study purpose was to examine the effects of a 16-week aerobic and resistance exercise intervention on AGFR among BCS. We assessed whether exercise-induced changes in AGFR were associated with improved insulin resistance.MethodsBCS (Stage I-III) were randomized to exercise (n  = 50) or usual care (n = 50). The thrice weekly 16-week intervention...

AbstractBackgroundApproximately 40% of pts with HR+, HER2 – ABC have mutations (mut) in PIK3CA, which encodes α-PI3K and leads to PI3K pathway hyperactivation and potentially ET resistance. ALP is a selective inhibitor of α-PI3K that, in combination with fulvestrant (FUL), significantly improved median progression-free survival (PFS) vs placebo + FUL i n pts with PIK3CA-mut, HR+ HER2– ABC in the phase 3 SOLAR-1 trial (11.0 vs 5.7 mo, respectively; HR 0.65; 95% CI, 0.50-0.85; P

CONCLUSION: In this population metformin showed no significant effect on RR, PFS or OS. These results do not support the use of metformin with chemotherapy in non-diabetic MBC patients. PMID: 31472446 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
