Request for Applications: Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research Related to Niemann Pick Type C The CODRT Postdoctoral Fellowship provides a one-year grant of $35,000 to support the salary of a Fellow while working on a mentored project related to a CODRT-funded disease. Eligibility At the time of application, the applicant must possess a Ph.D., M.D., or V.M.D. and should not have completed more than 5 years of postdoctoral research. At the time of award, the applicant must not be simultaneously serving an internship or residency. Applicants must work for a non-profit institution or foundation, and may not have a faculty appointment. There are no citizenship requirements for this program. Research Focus: The following areas of investigation will be considered in the context of a postdoctoral fellowship for Niemann Pick Type C. 1. EVALUATING INVOLVEMENT OF HEAT SHOCK PROTEINS IN THERAPY (but not by groups presently publishing on potential therapies already ex: HSP70) 2. Studies on methods and drugs to increase NPC1 protein expression to delay onset. 3. Studies intended to SPECIFICALLY treat NPC1-ASSOCIATED LUNG PATHOLOGY (surfactants, infused OR inhaled drugs SUCH AS CYCLODEXTRIN). Studies designed to show efficacy of FDA-approved drugs for symptom management or prophylaxis are not sought in this RFA. (i.e., antibiotics for pneumonia treatment or Mepron) 4.
