Novel Therapeutic Strategies for Neutropenia in Transplantation
Immunomodulatory agents provide the solution for complex therapeutics such as allograft tolerance from both, hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantation. However, these agents - while disease modifying - have profound immune suppressive side effects, often leaving patients at high risk for life-threatening infections. In fact, fungal pathogens such as Candida species, which now account for almost 10% of intensive care unit admissions across the United States with mortality rates near 90%.
