People Prescribed Opioids for Chronic Pain Face Multiple Barriers to Ongoing Opioid Therapy: Baseline Characteristics from the VALUE National, Observational, Study

Scant research exists on the needs of patients taking prescription opioids. VALUE is an observational, national study in which we characterized patients taking daily prescription opioids in the United States (US) during a climate of severe opioid restrictions and challenges for patients with chronic pain. Here we describe the baseline characteristics of our study sample. We recruited adults, between 18-85 years-old, with chronic non-cancer pain for>6 months and taking>10 morphine equivalent daily dose (MEDD) of prescription opioids for>3 months through online, national chronic pain networks.
