The Presence of Cold Agglutinins in Recipients is a Risk Factor for Severe Primary Graft Dysfunction After Lung Transplantation

Purpose: The relevance of the presence of cold agglutinins in lung transplantation recipients (LTx) is unclear. Cold agglutinin disease usually presents with hemolytic anemia but may also contribute to the onset of pulmonary embolisms caused by cold-reacting autiantibodies. While there is usually no hypothermia, the new lungs are still cold during implantation. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of cold agglutinins in lung transplant recipients on short- and long-term outcome after LTx.
