Response to Letter re “Risk factors for mortality in children with hemorrhagic cystitis after hematopoietic transplant”

Thank you for your comments regarding our manuscript evaluating risk factors for mortality in children with hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) after hematopoietic transplant. While the study is certainly somewhat limited due to the use of a single database, the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) is a reliable resource that collects patient information from a large number of pediatric hospitals around the United States, which supports the generalizability of our findings. As there were 811 patients who presented with HC across the 44 hospitals in the 7 year span, this averages out to approximately 3 patients per institution per year who developed HC after bone marrow or stem cell transplant in the PHIS database.
