Bridging gaps in cancer cachexia Care: Current insights and future perspectives
Cachexia, Greek term indicating “poor physical status”, is a life-threatening wasting syndrome whose main manifestations are severe weight loss and skeletal muscle depletion. Cachexia usually emerges in patients affected by inflammatory conditions, including cancer [1,2]. Up to 80 % of patients with advanced cancer experienc e cachexia. Pancreatic, oesophageal, gastric, head, neck, lung, and liver malignancies are commonly associated to cachexia’s risk [3–5].
