Letter: Changing from NAFLD to MASLD: The Implications for health related quality of life data

We agree with the multi-society consensus statement on new fatty liver disease nomenclature to replace non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) using a modified Delphi process led by large pan-national liver associations.1 MASLD is diagnosed as a combination of liver steatosis and the presence of at least one of five cardiometabolic risk factors.1 The new nomenclature and diagnostic criteria are expected to improve awareness and patient identification.
