Prevalence of Stroke in Individuals with Sickle Cell Disease Pre- and during Hydroxyurea Uses: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study in Tanzania
Adv Hematol. 2024 Mar 19;2024:7950925. doi: 10.1155/2024/7950925. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTSickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that leads to a variety of complications, including stroke. The use of hydroxyurea (HU) is reported to lessen the frequency and burden of stroke in SCD patients. However, less is known about the prevalence of stroke in SCD patients pre- and during the use of HU in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. Therefore, the study assessed stroke prevalence before and during uses of hydroxyurea among SCD patients in Tanzania. A hospital-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conduct...

Risk factors for unexpected infant death among very premature infants in France
CONCLUSION: This study confirms prematurity as a risk factor for SUID with no difference in the SUID-specific risk factors studied except for breastfeeding and socioeconomic status of the fathers. VPI and FTI died at similar chronological ages with a high proportion of infants dying in prone position. These results argue for reinforcement of prevention strategies in cases of prematurity.PMID:38538469 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2023.12.003 (Source: Archives de Pediatrie)

Self-perception of mental health, COVID-19 and associated sociodemographic-contextual factors in Latin America
This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of alterations in self-perceived mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic and their associated factors in four Latin American countries. This is a cross-sectional study based on data collected from adults in 2021 through the Collaborative Response COVID-19 Survey by the MacDonnell Academy at Washington University in St. Louis (United States). The sample was composed of 8,125 individuals from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile. A generalized linear model for a binary outcome variable with a logistic link and fixed country effects was used. There were 2,336 (28.75%) individuals ...
