Attributes in stated preference elicitation studies on colorectal cancer screening and their relative importance for decision-making among screenees: a systematic review
ConclusionsHealth preference studies on CRC were found to have a high RoB. The composition of choice tasks revealed a lack of attributes on patient-important outcomes (like incidence reduction), while attributes not considered relevant for individual screening decisions (like sensitivity) were frequently used. Future studies eliciting stated preferences in cancer screening should apply the principles of informed decision-making in attribute identification and selection. (Source: Health Economics Review)

Impact of Alzheimer ’s disease and related dementias on colorectal cancer screening utilization, knowledge, and associated health disparities
Conclusion: ADRD was significantly associated with colorectal cancer screening utilization and knowledge. In addition, this study identified health disparities in race/ethnicity, gender, and urban/rural residence in colorectal cancer screening use and knowledge. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Nurse ’s Roles in Colorectal Cancer Prevention: A Narrative Review
The objective of this paper is to investigate the different roles of nurses as members of healthcare teams at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of colorectal cancer prevention. The research team conducted a narrative review of studies involving the role of nurses at different levels of colorectal cancer prevention, which included a variety of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Reviews, Magiran, the Scientific Information Database (SID), Noormags, and the Islamic Science Citation (ISC) databases from ab initio until 2021. A total of 117 studies...

Sigmoid Perforation Caused by an Aortobifemoral Vascular Graft
An 83-year-old man underwent aortobifemoral bypass graft surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Ten days after his discharge he was readmitted with fever and signs of infection. A computed tomography scan revealed sigmoid diverticulosis, a perigraft collection containing gas bubbles near the aortic anastomosis and smaller localized collections near the iliac vessels. He was started on antibiotics but a day later he developed hematochezia. A sigmoidoscopy was performed, which revealed a prosthetic vascular graft penetrating “through and through” the sigmoid colon (Figures A–C) with active bleeding at 1 site of the ...

Oral Fluconazole Therapy in Patients With Active Ulcerative Colitis Who Have Detectable Candida in the Stool: A Double-Blind Randomized Placebo-controlled Trial
Conclusion: Candida colonization is found in 28% of patients with UC. Steroid exposure and active disease were independent predictors for the presence of Candida. There was no statistically significant difference in the number of patients who achieved 3-point reduction in Mayo score between 2 groups. However, clinical, histologic, and calprotectin levels showed significant improvement in fluconazole group. (Source: Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology)

Promoting healthy lifestyle habits among participants in cancer screening programs: Results of the randomized controlled Sti.Vi study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that active interventions can increase awareness and induce diet changes. However, participation rate and compliance to the courses was quite low, innovative strategies to enhance participants' retention are needed, with the ultimate goal of increasing awareness and inducing positive lifestyle changes.PMID:35928498 | PMC:PMC9343860 | DOI:10.1177/22799036221106542 (Source: Cancer Control)

Colorectal cancer screening at a younger age: pitfalls in the model-based recommendation of the USPSTF
Over the last 15 years, there have been dramatic changes in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening guidelines by the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). In 2008, grade A USPSTF screening recommendations for CRC suggested adults aged 50–75 receive either a flexible sigmoidoscopy (FS), faecal occult blood test (FOBT) or colonoscopy.1 In 2016, the USPSTF expanded the screening recommendations to include faecal immunochemical tests (FITs) and blood-based cancer screening for methylated SEPT9 DNA,2 the latter of which is theorised to improve screening rates owing to its non-invasive nature and preference over stool tes...
