Temporal bone squamous cell carcinoma: Aggressive behavior coursing with cerebellar invasion and hydrocephalus
CONCLUSION: We report a case of advanced TBSCC with poor prognosis despite surgical treatment and radiotherapy. More data are necessary to provide new and better treatment to these patients.PMID:38628504 | PMC:PMC11021098 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_1017_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus following pituitary apoplexy: A case report
CONCLUSION: This case suggests that sNPH can develop even after a small subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a pituitary apoplexy in LOVA patients. If the aqueduct of Sylvius is open, sNPH with a LOVA background can be successfully treated with LPS placement.PMID:38628523 | PMC:PMC11021090 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_32_2024 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Surgery in Pediatrics: Does Preoperative Skin Antisepsis with Chlorhexidine/Alcohol Reduce Postoperative Shunt Infection Rate?
Conclusions Two steps of preoperative skin antisepsis, first using chlorhexidine/alcohol and then povidone-iodine scrub solution, may significantly reduce the infection rate in pediatric VP shunt surgeries. Toward the "Perfect" Shunt: Historical Vignette, Current Efforts, and Future Directions
Adv Tech Stand Neurosurg. 2024;50:1-30. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-53578-9_1.ABSTRACTAs a concept, drainage of excess fluid volume in the cranium has been around for more than 1000 years. Starting with the original decompression-trepanation of Abulcasis to modern programmable shunt systems, to other nonshunt-based treatments such as endoscopic third ventriculostomy and choroid plexus cauterization, we have come far as a field. However, there are still fundamental limitations that shunts have yet to overcome: namely posture-induced over- and underdrainage, the continual need for valve opening pressure especially in pediatric ca...
