The global prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men with thyroid gland disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusionthe global prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men with TGD was found relatively high. also, the highest prevalence of sexual disorders was reported in hypothyroid cases. Thus, health policymakers are suggested to inform the individuals prone to this pathology regarding the negative effects of TGD on sexual dysfunction. Besides, TGD-affected cases can prevent sexual disorders and unpleasant consequences through timely medical treatments. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Self-perceptions of masculinities and testicular cancer: Qualitative explorations
CONCLUSION: Leveraging traditionally masculine norms such as physical strength and control and developing flexible adaptations of masculinities should be encouraged with men with TC to retain self-perception and potentially enable better coping. Masculine self-perception of gay/bisexual men may centre around sexual functioning, though further research is required.PMID:38520671 | DOI:10.1002/pon.6333 (Source: Cancer Control)

Female Sexual Dysfunction: A Time to Question and Assist
Sexual problems are reported in up to 40% of women on routine questioning, and about one in eight has a sexual dysfunction. To meet diagnostic criteria for sexual dysfunction, a problem must be recurrent or persistent and cause personal distress or interpersonal difficulty. Sexual dysfunction is a topic that is not usually broached by female patients and health care workers. This widespread problem can be a source of awkwardness unless a specific, correctable problem is found. Furthermore, with a busy schedule, there is often little time to discuss sexual desire, inadequate lubrication, impaired arousal, inability to activ...

Optimizing Sexual Function: Clinical Practice Pearls for the Obstetrician-Gynecologist
Female sexual dysfunction is a common condition faced by many obstetrician-gynecologists. Up to 50% of cis-gendered women report some form of sexual distress; however, this number is likely higher, as surveys show women are reluctant to share concerns about their sexual health to their clinician due to the social stigma around sexuality. Moreover, even less is known about the incidence and prevalence of sexual dysfunction in gender-diverse individuals assigned female at birth. Despite the high prevalence of sexual concerns, many obstetrician-gynecologists feel unprepared to manage sexual concerns in their patients citing l...

Correlation between serum tryptophan metabolism and treatment efficacy of dapoxetine in patients with premature ejaculation: A pilot study
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that the reduction in the TRP/LNAAs ratio and the elevation of the KYN/TRP ratio are significant characteristics associated with PPE. These findings suggest that diminished tryptophan availability in the brain and the activation of the kynurenine (KYN) pathway may play a role in the pathogenesis of PPE. The TRP/LNAAs ratio has potential as a reliable indicator of central serotonin (5-HT) levels. Considering the TRP/LNAAs ratio when selecting SSRIs for the treatment of PPE may enhance the response rate of this medication. (Source: Andrology)

A comparison of available guidelines for the detection of cauda equina syndrome and assessing the need for further clinical guidance in Ireland
AbstractThe cauda equina syndrome (CES) is a rare but critical disorder, which can result in devastating motor weakness and sensory deficit, alongside often irreversible bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. In addition to the clinical burden of disease, this syndrome results in a disproportionately high medicolegal strain due to missed or delayed diagnoses. Despite being an emergency diagnosis, often necessitating urgent surgical decompression to treat, we believe there is a lack of clarity for clinicians in the current literature, with no published Irish guideline concerning screening or detection. The current study aim...
