Snow Contamination by Metals and Metalloids in a Polar Town: A Case Study of Nadym, Russia
This article examines aspects of snow composition in the town of Nadym in Western Siberia. During fieldwork conducted in 2021 and 2022, we determined dust load, concentrations and ratio of dissolved and suspended forms of metals and metalloids (MMs). Moreover, we analyzed air mass trajectories using the HYSPLIT model, and the results showed that industrial regions of the southern Urals, southeastern Siberia, and Kazakhstan were the sources of MMs. Content of the insoluble fraction was increased by 23-fold in Nadym. The dust load in Nadym was higher than that in urban communities situated in the temperate zone, even though ...

Is Germany on track to achieve 2030 climate and energy targets?
AbstractIt is unclear how CO2 emissions in the German electricity sector will develop until 2030. On the one hand, the amendment in the Climate Change Act (as of August 2021) aims to tighten the emission reduction targets, fostering the pathway towards a  decarbonised energy system. On the other hand, the complex interplay between the main instruments used to mitigate carbon emissions, fuel prices and the latest energy scarcity as a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine generates pressure for increased emissions.Using an energy system model parametrised to reflect the 2021 energy market situation i.e., before Russia ’s a...

Dental color measurement to estimate age in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractAge estimation is a major challenge in anthropology and forensic odontology laboratories, as well as in judicial settings, as one of the tools used in human identification. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of age estimation methods based on the accurate measurement of tooth color changes. A systematic review was carried out following the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses and in compliance with Cochrane criteria recommendations (PROSPERO registration number CRD 42022343371). An electronic search was performed in the following databases: Pubm...

Cartographic evaluation of the risk of natural elements ’ deficiency in the soil cover provoking spatial variation of the endemic morbidity level (on example of thyroid morbidity among population of the Central Federal District, Russia)
AbstractThe main goal of the study is to evaluate the contribution of the natural geochemical risk in the central part of the Eastern European Plain to the spatial distribution of human diseases provoked by the deficiency of biologically significant microelements (Co, Cu, and I) in the environment. The Central Federal District (CFD) of Russia, located in the Eastern European Plain is characterized by a deficiency of Co, Cu, and I in the environment (soils, local food). To access the risk of thyroid diseases associated with Co, Cu, and I content in soils of the CFD based on published data of trace elements concentrations an...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 345: Spectrum of Mutations in PTPN11 in Russian Cohort
Ryzhkova Noonan syndrome is a group of diseases with a similar clinical picture, consisting of 16 diseases caused by mutations in 15 genes. According to the literature, approximately half of all cases are attributed to Noonan syndrome type 1, NSML, caused by mutations in the PTPN11 gene. We analyzed 456 unrelated probands using a gene panel NGS, and in 206 cases, the cause of the disease was identified. Approximately half of the cases (107) were caused by variants in the PTPN11 gene, including three previously undescribed variants, one of which was classified as VOUS, and the other two as LP causative complex alleles....
