The impact of pretransplant suspected HLA antibody on the long-term outcome of the graft kidney: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: KTRs with suspected HLA antibodies before kidney transplantation have worse graft function than the preoperative HLA antibody-negative recipients in the long-term posttransplant follow-up. The specific load capacity of HLA mismatches, the age of the recipient and the urinary protein was found to be negatively correlated with long-term posttransplant renal outcomes. It is necessary to undergo further HLA specificity analysis for recipients with suspected HLA antibodies in HLA antibody screen test to explicit HLA mismatches and improve long-term posttransplant outcomes.PMID:37657691 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2023.101922

A Machine Learning Analysis of Prognostic Genes Associated With Allograft Tolerance After Renal Transplantation
In this study, we aimed to identify transplantation tolerance (TOL)-related gene signature and use it to predict the different types of renal allograft rejection performances in kidney transplantation. Gene expression data were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, differently expressed genes (DEGs) were performed, and the gene ontology (GO) function enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were also conducted. The machine learning methods were combined to analyze the feature TOL-related genes and verify their predictive performance. Afterward, the gene e...

Interventions for fatigue in people with kidney failure requiring dialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise, aromatherapy, massage and acupressure may improve fatigue compared to placebo, standard care or no intervention. Pharmacological and other non-pharmacological interventions had uncertain effects on fatigue or fatigue-related outcomes in people receiving dialysis. Future adequately powered, high-quality studies are likely to change the estimated effects of interventions for fatigue and fatigue-related outcomes in people receiving dialysis.PMID:37651553 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013074.pub2

Success rate and safety of living donor kidney transplantation in ABO blood group incompatible relatives: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Good long- and short-term patient outcomes and graft survival rates were observed after ABO-I kidney transplantation. Similarly, the safety of performing kidney transplantations from living donors with ABO-I blood groups was established by the results of the current meta-analysis. Therefore, ABO-I live-donor kidney transplantations should be encouraged to reduce the time recipients spend on waiting lists and supplement the existing paired-exchange donor program.PMID:37648033 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2023.101921

Self-organized insulin-producing β-cells differentiated from human omentum-derived stem cells and their in vivo therapeutic potential
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the FGF2-immobilized matrix can support initial cell adhesion, maturation, and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion within the host microenvironment. Such a cell culture platform can offer novel strategies to obtain functional pancreatic β-cells from patient-specific cell sources, ultimately enabling better treatment for diabetes mellitus.PMID:37644502 | DOI:10.1186/s40824-023-00419-1

REIN: a tool at the service of the paediatric patients
Nephrol Ther. 2023 Aug 28;18(S2):59-64. doi: 10.1016/S1769-7255(22)00570-3.ABSTRACTOn the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the REIN (French Renal Epidemiology and Information Network), a summary work on the contributions of the national French ESKD register was carried out. On the issue of paediatric CKD patients, the following key messages were retained. Paediatric stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) has particularities that require to be analysed and taken into account because the mortality of these patients remains 30 times higher than that of children of the same age. The REIN registry enables illustrating the spec...

REIN: a tool to highlight inequalities in health
Nephrol Ther. 2023 Aug 28;18(S2):50-53. doi: 10.1016/S1769-7255(22)00568-5.ABSTRACTOn the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the REIN (French Renal Epidemiology and Information Network), a summary work on the contributions of the national French ESKD register was carried out. On the issue of Social Inequalities in Health, the following key messages were retained. Social inequalities in health exist throughout the journey of a patient with chronic kidney disease and manifest as territorial inequalities in access to home-based or independent dialysis treatment and to transplant, whether preemptive or otherwise. SIH are obse...
