REIN: a tool at the service of the paediatric patients
Nephrol Ther. 2023 Aug 28;18(S2):59-64. doi: 10.1016/S1769-7255(22)00570-3.ABSTRACTOn the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the REIN (French Renal Epidemiology and Information Network), a summary work on the contributions of the national French ESKD register was carried out. On the issue of paediatric CKD patients, the following key messages were retained. Paediatric stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) has particularities that require to be analysed and taken into account because the mortality of these patients remains 30 times higher than that of children of the same age. The REIN registry enables illustrating the spec...

On the issue of Social Inequalities in Health, the following key messages were retained. Social inequalities in health exist throughout the journey of a patient with chronic kidney disease and manifest as territorial inequalities in access to home-based or independent dialysis treatment and to transplant, whether preemptive or otherwise. SIH are obse...

On the issue of access to renal transplantation for ESKD patients, the following key messages were retained. The registry of the REIN includes data about kidney transplant and dialysis. It thus allows evaluating the access to kidney transplant in France based on the needs of the population with stage 5 CKD treated by renal replacement therapy. The da...

On the issue of ESKD prevalence, the following key messages were retained. While chronic kidney disease affects all age groups, there always are more patients to treat in the older age groups, with a median age of 71.1 years (IIQ 60.3-80.0) under dialysis and 58.7 years (IIQ 47.4-68.3) under renal transplant. Despite an increase in transplant activit...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, August 28th 2023
In conclusion, we identified 20 genes with significant evolutionary signals unique to long-lived species, which provided new insight into the lifespan extension of mammals and might bring new strategies to extend human lifespan. « Back to Top Trials of Xenotransplantation of Pig Organs into Humans Continue https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2023/08/trials-of-xenotransplantation-of-pig-organs-into-humans-continue/ Researchers have genetically engineered pigs to overcome the known barriers to transplantation of pig organs into humans, and have reached the stage of conducting transplants in...

The mTOR Inhibitor Rapamycin Counteracts Follicle Activation Induced by Ovarian Cryopreservation in Murine Transplantation Models
Conclusions: By adding rapamycin during the OTCTP procedure, we were able to transiently maintain primordial follicles in a quiescent state. This is a promising method for improving the longevity of the ovarian graft. Furthermore, both the ear and kidney capsule transplantation models were suitable for investigating follicle activation and proliferation and pharmacological strategies.PMID:37629764 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59081474

Screening and Management of Coronary Artery Disease in Kidney Transplant Candidates
Diagnostics (Basel). 2023 Aug 20;13(16):2709. doi: 10.3390/diagnostics13162709.ABSTRACTCardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients and during the first year after transplantation. For these reasons, and due to the shortage of organs available for transplant, it is of utmost importance to identify patients with a good life expectancy after transplant and minimize the transplant peri-operative risk. Various conditions, such as severe pulmonary diseases, recent myocardial infarction or stroke, and ...
