Diosgenin prevents dexamethasone-induced myotube atrophy in C2C12  cells
Arch Biochem Biophys. 2023 Sep 16:109759. doi: 10.1016/j.abb.2023.109759. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSeveral pathophysiological abnormalities, including a sedentary lifestyle, chronic diseases, and oxidative stress, can contribute to muscle atrophy triggered by an imbalance in muscle protein synthesis and degradation. Resolving muscle atrophy is a critical issue as it can reduce the quality of life. Here, one of the promising functional food factors, diosgenin (a steroidal sapogenin) showed strong preventive activities against dexamethasone (Dex)-induced muscle atrophy, as determined by the expression levels and morphol...

Multiple Myeloma in Young Patients: A Scoping Review
Clin Lymphoma Myeloma Leuk. 2023 Aug 28:S2152-2650(23)00277-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTData on the disease course, presenting features, outcomes, and prognosis of younger patients with multiple myeloma (MM) are lacking. Younger patients with MM have historically been considered to have better outcomes primarily based on better tolerance of treatment and lack of medical comorbidities, but the specific age range of this population has not been uniformly defined. Given the lack of consistent data reporting in patients considered to be young MM patients, we performed a scoping review to h...

Clinical analysis of bacterial infection characteristics in lymphoma patients with high-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-a single-centered retrospective study
CONCLUSION: High-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HDT/AHSCT) is used to treat lymphoma. Although AHSCT has made considerable strides and become safer, HDT-AHSCT infection continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality associated with transplantation.PMID:37718527 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230915115056

Updates in the Management of Primary Mediastinal B Cell Lymphoma
Clin Lymphoma Myeloma Leuk. 2023 Aug 21:S2152-2650(23)00274-4. doi: 10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary mediastinal B cell lymphoma (PMBCL) is considered a distinct pathology according to the WHO classification of lymphoid malignancies. Patients have a better prognosis after the addition of Rituximab to anthracycline-based chemotherapy. The role of consolidative radiotherapy is controversial after the approval of dose-adjusted R-EPOCH and the selection of patients to undergo radiotherapy is based on end-of-therapy PET CT. In the relapsed/refractory setting, new approved drugs and other under i...

Multimodal Analgesia in Pediatric Cancer Pain Management: A Retrospective Single-Center Study
Conclusions The pain level that pediatric cancer patients endure critically influences their and their family's quality of life. The fact that opioid-related adverse effects associated with pediatric pain management occur far less frequently than previously thought may help prevent opiophobia. Effective and safe analgesia can be provided with multimodal analgesia to manage pediatric cancer pain.PMID:37720121 | PMC:PMC10501176 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.45223

Role of human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 in treatment resistance of anaplastic lymphoma kinase translocated non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that HER3 may mediate TKI resistance in ALK+ NSCLC. Interestingly, we were able to show that both translocated ALK and HER3 could interact. Joint targeting of ALK and HER3 could be further investigate in ALK+ NSCLC.PMID:37722715 | DOI:10.1080/15384047.2023.2256906

HDAC inhibitors: Promising agents for leukemia treatment
Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2023 Sep 14;680:61-72. doi: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2023.09.023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe essential role of epigenetic modification in the pathogenesis of a series of cancers have gradually been recognized. Histone deacetylase (HDACs), as well-known epigenetic modulators, are responsible for DNA repair, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and angiogenesis. Studies have shown that aberrant expression of HDACs is found in many cancer types. Thus, inhibition of HDACs has provided a promising therapeutic approach alternative for these patients. Since HDAC inhibitor (HDACi) vorinostat was ...

Baseline < sup > 18 < /sup > FFDG PET features are associated with survival and toxicity in patients treated with CAR T cells for large B cell lymphoma
CONCLUSION: TMTV and sDmax had independent prognostic values, respectively, on PFS and OS. Regarding adverse events, the mean liver and spleen uptakes were associated with the occurrence of grade 2 to 4 CRS and ICANS, respectively. Integrating these biomarkers into the clinical workflow could be useful for early adaptation of patients management.PMID:37721580 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06427-6
