Impact Of Moderate Preoperative Chronic Kidney Disease On Mortality After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
Preoperative chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been found as an important determinant of clinical outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) [1]. In a recent meta-analysis including 4992 TAVI patients, we demonstrated that CKD (stages 3-5) significantly increases early (30-day) and 1-year all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, early stroke, acute kidney injury (AKI and AKI stages 2-3), need for dialysis, and length of hospitalization [1]. Intriguingly, even moderate CKD (stage 3) was found to be associated to worse outcomes after TAVI, in opposition to previous studies [2,3].

Conclusion This is a valuable review that has searched the literature and identified eight observational studies in adults that have looked at the adverse effects that may be associated with paracetamol use. As the researchers say, it will add to information on the potential harms of paracetamol – an area where up-to-date information has been lacking. In conclusion, current evidence suggests that ESKD patients may not derive the same benefits from clopidogrel therapy as the general population and this therapy may be associated with harm. Properly designed observational studies and randomized controlled trials are needed to establish the role of clopidogrel in patients with ESKD, the use of platelet assays to tailor therapy, and the role of other antiplatelet agents such as prasugrel or ticagrelor in patients who exhibit high on-treatment residual platelet reactivity. Perioperative Aspirin and Clonidine and Risk of Acute Kidney Injury
In this sub-study of the POISE-2 study, neither ASA or clonidine reduced the risk of acute kidney injury after non-cardiac surgery. Assessment of Achieved Clinic and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Recordings and Outcomes During Treatment in Hypertensive Patients With CKD: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions In patients with treated CKD, clinic BP above goal and ambulatory BP at goal identify a low-risk condition, whereas clinic BP at goal and ambulatory BP above goal are associated with higher cardiorenal risk, similar to that observed in patients with both clinic and ambulatory BPs above goal.

The Impact of Acute Kidney Injury on the Long-term Risk of Stroke Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease
Conclusions The patients who recovered from AKI had a higher incidence of developing incident stroke and mortality than the patients without AKI, and the impact was similar to diabetes. Our results suggest that a public health initiative is needed to enhance postdischarge follow-up of renal function and to control the subsequent incidence of stroke among patients who recover from AKI after dialysis.

Review Stroke and cerebrovascular diseases in patients with chronic kidney disease
Chronic kidney disease, defined as a reduced glomerular filtration rate or increased urinary albumin excretion, is recognised as a rapidly growing global health burden, and increasing evidence suggests that it contributes to the risk and severity of cerebrovascular diseases. In particular, chronic kidney disease is an established risk factor for stroke and is also strongly associated with subclinical cerebrovascular abnormalities and cognitive impairment, partly because it shares several traditional and non-traditional risk factors, and sometimes uraemia-related and dialysis-related factors, with cerebrovascular diseases.

Piperacillin/tazobactam‐induced neurotoxicity in a hemodialysis patient: A case report
This report presents a case of a hypertensive and diabetic 67‐year‐old woman in regular hemodialysis, which previously had a stroke. She was hospitalized presenting pneumonia, which was initially treated with cefepime. Two days after treatment, she presented dysarthria, left hemiparesis, ataxia, and IX and X cranial nerves paresis. Computed tomography showed no acute lesions and cefepime neurotoxicity was hypothesized, and the antibiotic was replaced by piperacillin/tazobactam.
