Roseburia Abundance Associates With Severity, Evolution and Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke
Stroke induces disorder of gut microbiota, however, whether this disorder differs according to stroke severity and its role in the evolution and outcome of stroke is currently unknown. Here we explored the composition and structure of fecal microbiome based on 68 acute ischemic stroke patients presenting with minor symptoms (admission National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) ≤ 3) and 67 patients with non-minor stroke (admission NIHSS 4-34) using high-throughput Illumina sequencing of the 16S rRNA. There was no significant difference in α-diversity indices, but the principal coordinate analysis of the microbiota...

Stroke in patients with tuberculous meningitis in a low TB endemic country: an increasing medical emergency?
This study evaluated the frequency, clinical characteristics, risk factors and outcomes of patients with TBM complicated by stroke admitted to the Infectious Disease Clinic, University of Perugia Hospital, Italy from 1971 to 2010. Over four decades, 419 patients were admitted with tuberculosis, of these 30 (7.1%) were diagnosed with TBM: 20 definite, one probable and nine possible. Twenty-six were evaluable for stroke and six (23%) had stroke. The latter six had advanced stages of meningitis, two tested HIV positive, three HIV negative and in one HIV was not performed. Of seven patients without stroke tested for HIV, only ...

The seroprevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgM and IgG antibodies in patients with ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: A high level of anti-Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgM and IgG antibodies indicate a significant association of M. pneumoniae infection and history of this infection with increased risk for ischemic stroke. PMID: 28491249 [PubMed - in process]

Gut Microbiotic Features Aiding the Diagnosis of Acute Ischemic Stroke
This study is the first to characterize the gut microbiotic profiles of patients with lacunar or non-lacunar, acute ischemic strokes, and those recovering from stroke, and to identify microbiotic predictors of such strokes.

Lactulose Improves Neurological Outcomes by Repressing Harmful Bacteria and Regulating Inflammatory Reactions in Mice After Stroke
ConclusionLactulose promotes functional outcomes after stroke in mice, which may be attributable to repressing harmful bacteria, and metabolic disorder, repairing gut barrier disruption, and reducing inflammatory reactions after stroke.

Common Features Between Stroke Following Varicella in Children and Stroke Following Herpes Zoster in Adults : Varicella-Zoster Virus in Trigeminal Ganglion
Curr Top Microbiol Immunol. 2021 Jul 6. doi: 10.1007/82_2021_236. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe cerebral arteries are innervated by afferent fibers from the trigeminal ganglia. Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) frequently resides in the trigeminal ganglion. Reports of arterial ischemic stroke due to VZV cerebral vasculopathy in adults after herpes zoster have been described for decades. Reports of arterial ischemic stroke due to post-varicella cerebral arteriopathy in children have also been described for decades. One rationale for this review has been post-licensure studies that have shown an apparent protective effect fro...
