Association Between a Body Shape Index and Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis in Population Free of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases
CONCLUSIONS: ABSI, as a novel anthropometric indicator compared with traditional indices, was found to have a closer relationship with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis, even in populations free of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.PMID:34483222 | DOI:10.5551/jat.62988

From Cotton Candy to Diagnosis and Monitoring of Atherosclerosis: Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Quantification of Intraplaque Neovascularization
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, manifesting as ischemic heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 28% of all-cause mortality in 2013.1,2 The active pathophysiologic process of atherosclerosis is initiated by endothelial injury and progresses with an inflammatory cascade inside the vessel wall, resulting in the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.3-5 As atherosclerosis progresses, the fibrous plaque inhibits diffusion of nutrients and oxygen into the vessel wall, triggering neoangiogenesis and formation of new fragile vessels —a process called intraplaque neovascularization (IPN).

Electrocardiographic abnormalities, preclinical carotid atherosclerosis andcardiovascular risk, in an apparently healthy real-world population: data from the project "No Stroke, No Infarction" of the rotary international - District 2110 "Sicily & amp; Malta"
CONCLUSIONS: A total of 302 (16.2%) subjects were at least at high risk for CV events according to the EUROSCORE, increasing to 681 (36,61% - p < 0.001) adding ACP. The combination of EUROSCORE with ECG may help to stratify CV risk in primary prevention. Carotid ultrasound furtherly increases the power of stratification of asymptomatic patients suitable for pharmacological treatment.PMID:34282855 | DOI:10.23736/S0392-9590.21.04637-X

Outcomes of transulnar and transradial percutaneous coronary intervention using ultrasound guided access in patients selected based on an ultrasound algorithm
Indian Heart J. 2021 May-Jun;73(3):362-364. doi: 10.1016/j.ihj.2021.03.005. Epub 2021 Mar 17.ABSTRACTWe performed a prospective observational study of 215 patients (58 ± 11 years) and compared the outcomes of ultrasound guided ulnar (n = 98, 45.6%) vs. radial (n = 117, 54.4%) cardiac catheterization and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients selected by an ultrasound based algorithm. Primary endpoints included the number of access attempts and conversion to femoral access. Secondary endpoints included all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke, repeat revascularization, stent throm...
