Ventricular global function index is associated with clinical outcomes in pediatric pulmonary hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: RV GFI was associated with CAO in this cohort, and inclusion in multivariable models had increased predictive value compared to RVEF. ConclusionsThe overall prevalence of CVD risk factors in this urban population is higher than reported in the 2010 World Health Organization Stepwise Approach to Surveillance report on the Lebanese population, indicating that the urban population in the capital carries a higher burden of CVD risk. In addition, sex and age difference rates of CVD risk factors highlight the need for tailored public health measures to tackle the sex- and age-based CVD risk factors.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), usually asymptomatic and not previously-diagnosed, increases risk of stroke by five times1 and accounts for 15-25% of strokes. 2 Asymptomatic AF is estimated to affect 600,000 Americans, with an estimated cost of 3 billion dollars per year.3 Just because we can identify a risk factor does not mean screening for it will save lives. AF, however, meets most criteria laid out in the World Health Organization ’s manifesto on screening, “Principles and Practice of Screening for Disease”.

The World Heart Federation (WHF) is the umbrella organization of continental and national cardiac societies and heart foundations globally, reporting to the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHF is dedicated to the global fight against CVD, including heart disease, stroke, and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). Building on the first Global Summit on Circulatory Health, held at the 2016 World Congress of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Health in Mexico City, the second Summit held in Singapore July 2017 focused on building a civil society movement for circulatory health.
