Incidence and risk factors of cognitive dysfunction in hemodialysis patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The most important risk factors for cognitive dysfunction associated with hemodialysis might be female gender, old age, diabetes, and stroke. Close attention should be paid to such patients for early prevention.PMID:37592399 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13171

The number of valvular insufficiency is a strong predictor of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in hemodialysis patients
ConclusionsIn maintenance HD patients, the prevalence of VI is prominently high. The number of VI  ≥ 2 is associated with emergency hospitalized for acute heart failure, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Combining age, number of VI ≥ 2, and albumin can predict cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.

Predictors of quality of life in patients within the first year of commencing haemodialysis based on baseline data from the PIVOTAL trial and associations with the study outcomes
CONCLUSION: Quality of life was impaired in patients starting haemodialysis. A higher C-reactive protein level level was a consistent independent predictor of the majority of worse quality of life. Transferrin saturation ≤ 20% was associated with worse physical component score of quality of life. AbstractTrimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is an intestinal uremic toxin molecule mainly excreted by the kidney. Therefore, the plasma TMAO concentration is significantly increased in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, and plasma TMAO can be cleared by dialysis.
