The Multi-Modal Evaluation of Sensory Sensitivity (MESSY): assessing a commonly missed symptom of acquired brain injury
Conclusions: These results show that sensory hypersensitivity is prevalent after different types of acquired brain injury as well as across several sensory modalities. The MESSY can improve recognition of these symptoms and facilitate further research.PMID:37291083 | DOI:10.1080/13854046.2023.2219024

Health Professional- and Volunteer-partnered Self-management Support (COMBO-KEY) to Promote Self-efficacy and Self-management Behaviors in People with Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: The COMBO-KEY program showed effective improvements in recovery outcomes of people with stroke. Future research should explore the inclusion of virtual/hybrid sessions, strategies to assess health conditions of people with stroke via online modes, and assessment of goal attainment and actual performance of self-management behaviors.PMID:37260291 | DOI:10.1093/abm/kaad028

Associations between posttraumatic stress and stroke: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
The objective of the present study was to systematically review the existing literature for studies examining the association between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and stroke risk and perform a meta-analysis to obtain a pooled risk estimate describing the association. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, PSYCInfo, and CINAHL to identify relevant studies. Cohort and cross-sectional studies that reported PTSD exposure (i.e., PTSD diagnosis, probable PTSD, or the presence of PTSD symptoms) at baseline and the risk or odds of stroke associated with PTSD exposure during the study period were included in t...

Contributions of semantic and phonological working memory to narrative language independent of single word production: Evidence from acute stroke
Cogn Neuropsychol. 2023 Mar 16:1-29. doi: 10.1080/02643294.2023.2186782. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTABSTRACTNeuropsychological case studies have provided evidence that individuals with semantic, but not phonological, working memory (WM) deficits have difficulty producing phrases containing several content words. These findings supported the claim of a phrasal scope of planning at the grammatical formulation stage of production, where semantic WM supports the maintenance of lexical-semantic representations as they are inserted into slots in phrasal constituents. Recent narrative production results for individuals at the ...
